Master of Computing

Overview

The Master of Computing is a postgraduate degree that covers fundamental programming and theoretical knowledge, followed by an opportunity to specialise in one of three key computing majors: Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, or Cyber Security.


Admission Criteria

  • A bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or Engineering
  • A bachelor's degree and demonstrated knowledge and skills in programming, operating systems, and computing mathematics
  • Students may be eligible to apply and be granted CRL for up to one semester of study if they have completed Curtin's Bachelor of Technology, Bachelor of Computing or an equivalent study from other Australian universities

Course Structure

  • The course has a duration of 2 years and is available in First and Second Semester for mid-year intake.
  • A full-time study load usually consists of 200 credits (approximately eight units) per year, with 100 credits (approximately four units) in each semester.
  • The course covers fundamental programming and theoretical knowledge, followed by an opportunity to specialise in one of three key computing majors: Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, or Cyber Security.

What You'll Learn

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding that is founded upon and extends and/or enhances that typically associated with the bachelor-level, and that provides a basis or opportunity for originality in developing and/or applying ideas, often within a research context.
  • Apply knowledge and understanding, and problem-solving abilities in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to computing.
  • Communicate conclusions, and the knowledge and rationale underpinning these, to specialist and non-specialist audiences clearly and unambiguously.
  • Integrate knowledge and handle complexity, and formulate judgements with incomplete or limited information, but that include reflecting on social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgements.
  • Comprehend that computing is an international discipline with varying perspectives as demonstrated in the diversity of opinion identified while undertaking this course.
  • Have the learning skills to allow them to continue to study and practice in a manner that may be largely self-directed or autonomous.
