Overview

The Geophysics Major (M Geosci) is a postgraduate major that focuses on the application of modern geophysical methods to exploration problems in petroleum, mineral, and groundwater exploration. Students will learn to evaluate new methodologies, think critically and creatively, and communicate effectively.

• Apply discipline, knowledge, principles, and concepts to geophysical exploration problems
• Evaluate new methodologies and technologies in the industry
• Think critically, creatively, and reflectively to analyze geophysical approaches to gathering subsurface information
• Access, evaluate, and synthesize information to communicate effectively
• Utilize lifelong learning skills and demonstrate an ability to learn independently
• Apply international and regional perspectives to recognize the global nature of geophysical problems relating to exploration for resources
• Demonstrate an understanding of the cultural impact of resource exploration and developments, engaging respectfully with local First Peoples and other diverse cultures
• Apply a professional approach to working with individuals and organizations; demonstrate an ethical approach to using data and reports related to a geophysical research project

• Qualification: Geophysics Major (M Geosci)
• Credit: A full-time study load usually consists of 200 credits (approximately eight units) per year, with 100 credits (approximately four units) in each semester
