It will enable students to critically assess the operational requirements of aviation and local authority fire and rescue services through a problem-solving approach and present the outcomes in a structured and coherent manner.

What happens on the course?
The course has been ‘designed by firefighters for firefighters’ with the aim of getting you into a career as an aviation firefighter and to progress within your service to a senior management role.
The International Fire Training Centre has been closely involved with developing the structure and content of the course which also compliments the theoretical and practical application of knowledge and skills on the incident ground and in leadership /command roles.
This degree has been recognised by the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE), the professional body of the firefighting profession and accredited by the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) for the purpose of fully meeting the educational requirements for IFE membership.
The course is delivered through distance learning and will allow you to study at your own pace and around your work. This means the course is accessible wherever you are based as long as you have access to the internet.
Although teaching materials will be online you will be allocated a personal tutor who will be there to support you through tutorials (to suit your work schedule and time zone where possible). On completion of the course you will be able to claim the membership grade and post-nominals of an associate member of the IFE (A.M. IFE.), a significant, recognised, first step on your career path.

Why Wolverhampton?
It is believed that this degree is the first vocationally focussed undergraduate programme for the aviation fire and rescue services. It has been specifically designed in consultation with relevant professional and industry bodies to offer students an opportunity to acquire the necessary academic skills to equip them for a professional career in the fire & rescue services. The programme is highly-attractive to international students with a number of such enquiries already being received.

As a graduate of this course you will be able to demonstrate:

Entry Requirements
2018 Entry
- ‘A’ levels at grades BBC - CCC
- BTEC QCF Extended Diploma grade MMM, BTEC QCF Diploma grade DD
- Access to HE Diploma full award (Pass of 60 credits - of which a minimum of 45 credits must be at level 3 including 18 at Merit or Distinction).

- Successful completion of the International Foundation Year in Social Sciences guarantees entry on to this course
Other Requirements
Students must have studied a minimum of two years post GCSE level. However, it is expected that some applicants will be mature students with work experience, who wish to further their career development. These applicants will be processed through standard procedures, which may involve an interview as part of the process. Please see for further information.
Those who do not meet the entry requirements may be offered an alternative course.
Funding
Tuition Fees Loan(Home Fee Status):

Changes for EU students:
The UK government has confirmed that EU students starting courses from 1 August 2021 will normally be classified as having Overseas Fee status. More information about the change is available at UKCISA:
EU citizens living in the UK with 'settled' status, and Irish nationals living in the UK or Ireland, will still be classified as Home students, providing they meet the usual residency requirements, for more information about EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS)

Your employer, embassy or organisation can pay for your Tuition fees:
If your employer, embassy or organisation agrees to pay all or part of your tuition fees; the University will refer to them as your sponsor and will invoice them for the appropriate amount.
We must receive notification of sponsorship in writing as soon as possible, and before enrolment, confirming that the sponsor will pay your tuition fees.
Financial Hardship:
Students can apply to the Dennis Turner Opportunity Fund. for help with course related costs however this cannot be used for fees or to cover general living costs.
