This course will equip you with the skills and knowledge to assess and deliver interventions to patients from different backgrounds, in the form of education, exercise and manual treatments.


Students embarking on the BSc Physiotherapy course will have a desire to practice as a qualified physiotherapist upon completion. Physiotherapy is a science-based profession focused on improving individuals’ physical and mental wellbeing, and overall quality of life.


Upon successful completion of this course, which is endorsed by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), you can apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) to practice as a physiotherapist. Following this, Physiotherapy will offer a vast range of different career options, in different settings.

  • The course programme has been designed in collaboration with clinical stakeholders, service users, and carers and members of the Faculty of Education, Health and Wellbeing’s academic team, which has spent many years providing healthcare programmes tailored to the developing needs of the workplace.
  • Content reflects current and contemporary practice, including developing areas of Physiotherapy practice.
  • The programme is delivered by a small, friendly and knowledgeable team, all with current or recent clinical experience in a variety of different specialities. Teaching is supplemented by clinicians sharing their expertise in specific subject areas.
  • We will enable a personalised learning experience and an interactive, engaging learning and teaching environment with the adoption of flexible learning approaches.
  • Walsall Campus is home to both a breadth of health professions as well as sport students, giving you the opportunity to network and learn from your fellow students.
  • Many of your practical sessions will be delivered from the bespoke Physiotherapy lab, but we also have access to newly renovated health ‘ward’ labs, simulation suites and sports facilities, such as the physiology laboratories.
  • You will be provided with practice learning opportunities in a variety of settings within the local area and offered full support throughout this process. Many of our practice placements are supplied by NHS Trusts in the surrounding areas of Walsall, Wolverhampton, Shropshire and Birmingham. We also offer unique opportunities within evolving areas of Physiotherapy practice, such as the First Contact Practitioner role within GP surgeries, as well as within private, voluntary and sporting sectors.
  • You may also receive experiences within non-patient facing areas, such as virtual and leadership placements. Such placements offer invaluable experience of alternative roles available within the profession, allowing you to develop your wider professional skills.

What skills will you gain?

  • achieve the HCPC Standards of Proficiency [HCPC, 2013] providing eligibility to apply for entry to the HCPC register as a physiotherapist

Additional Course Costs

  • Mandatory Costs
    • International checks (INTCC) as part of the DBS are required and costs vary by country.
    • Purchase of a Stethoscope at a cost of approximately £5.
    • Uniform and ID badges are provided for this course, however the University of Wolverhampton reserves the right to charge for extra uniform should this be required.
    • You will be required to provide appropriate foot wear at a cost of approximately £25-£40.

    • Student Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists *currently £40.30 per annum, subject to change.

Entry Requirements

  • Applicants need to achieve:
    • A minimum of three GCSEs at grade C+/4 (or equivalent) which must include an English-based subject, Mathematics and Health and Social Care or Science subject. Equivalent qualifications include Key Skills level 2; Learn Direct Level 2 and Functional Skills Level 2. Sciences at GCSE could include Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Health and Social Care or Physical Education
    • Plus Either
      • 120+ UCAS points
      • A Levels: BBB from three A Levels including a Science subject e.g. Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Physical Education, or Social Science (e.g. Health & Social Care, Psychology) Excluding General Studies, Critical Thinking and Extended Project
      • T Levels: Equivalent to 120+ UCAS points in Health or Healthcare Science
      • BTEC QCF Extended National Diploma at a DDM or above in a Science based subject such as Sport and Exercise Science, Health Science or Applied Science
      • Access to HE Diploma (60 credits) : of which a minimum of 45 must be at Level 3 (120 UCAS point equivalence, minimum 30 credits at distinction) in Health or Science subject. If applying with an Access course you only need GCSE Mathematics and English Language at grade C/4 or above or accepted equivalent. You are not required to hold three GCSEs in total and GCSE Science is not required
