Postgraduate Diploma in Organizational Supervision
Overview
Supervision is a critical factor in the professional development and quality assurance of executive coaches and consultants. Become an Ashridge-accredited supervisor to differentiate yourself and build your status as a senior practitioner and supervisor of coaches and consultants.
Program Overview
- 16 months: 3 modules, 6 workshops
- Delivered part-time over 16 months at our Hult Ashridge campus and designed around six intensive two-day workshops delivered onsite.
- Each day will follow a supervision theme, with a focus on coaching supervision in Module 1, and on organization development supervision in Module 2.
- This is also an opportunity to be supervised on any aspect of your work, individually and in a group of similarly experienced consultants and coaches.
Module 1—Advanced Coaching Supervision
- Workshop 1: November 17-18, 2025
- What Is Coaching Supervision?
- Consider the benefits and risks of coaching supervision. What are the basic outcomes and effects of supervision? How can supervision be used effectively in practice? We also use reflective theory to explore the different levels at which we can work as a supervisor.
- Workshop 2: February 16-17, 2026
- Understanding the Supervisory Role
- Familiarize yourself with new areas of supervision focus through working with some of the most established models of core qualities, challenges, aspects of personality, and feedback. We’ll also discuss the Ashridge view on assessment, evaluation, and feedback to supervisees.
- Workshop 3: April 13-14, 2026
- Individual vs Small Group Supervision
- Think about the different ways of working as a supervisor in small groups. Consider the purpose of supervision and benefits that individual and group supervision work has for different client groups. Small supervision groups are used as a platform to explore client dynamics and group relationships.
- Assignment: At the end of Module 1, you’ll write two supervision case studies. Writing case studies offers an opportunity to reflect rigorously on your current supervision work—in particular, how you behave differently with different supervisees. The case studies will also embed your practice in a tradition of contributing to professional knowledge and practice through careful reflection on individual cases.
Module 2—Advanced Organization Development Supervision
- Workshop 1: July 13-14, 2026
- Supervision for Internal Coaches, Team Coaches & Consultants
- Gain a deeper understanding of the role a supervisor plays in complex, multiparty consulting engagements and learn how supervisors can act as "shadow consultants." Explore the ways in which group supervision can be adapted to working with a team of organizational consultants.
- Workshop 2: September 21-22, 2026
- Supervision of OD Consulting and Creating a "Shift" in the Room
- We'll introduce you to a model for working with a whole organization and its dynamics. Consider how shifting your supervision practice can have transformational consequences in organizations that your supervisee works with.
- Workshop 3: November 9-10, 2026
- Ethical Maturity in Coaching and OD Supervision
- Develop a deeper understanding of accountability, professional ethics, and the handling of boundaries. Consider "mature relational ethics," where ethical sensitivity combines with ethical decision-making to support high standards of practice.
- Assignment: At the end of Module 2, you'll conduct a personal inquiry report.
Module 3—Accreditation
- Accreditation Process: February 2, 2027
- Ashridge Supervisor Accreditation Process
- This will be a rigorous peer assessment of the competence of the coaching and organization development supervisor on their skills, knowledge, understanding, and experience in supervision practice against all seven of the accreditation criteria.
Ashridge Coaching Philosophy
At Ashridge, we see coaching as a relational practice. While we take it as read that serving our clients is the primary task of a coaching relationship, we have a particular perspective on the nature of this relationship. We take the view that the relationship between coach and client is at the heart of effective coaching and is, therefore, the central vehicle for learning and change. We see this as a mutual and co-creating relationship rather than a remedial contract to solve a problem.
