What is... Business Computing?
This course combines computer studies, particularly software development, with business subjects. On graduating, you’ll combine technical, business and interpersonal skills regarded as being important to industry, and that are in constant demand by employers.
The technical skills include a high level of proficiency in Object-Oriented Software Development through Java and Ruby. The Interpersonal Skills, Communication Skills and the Project Management modules along with a work placement will develop your personal effectiveness in the workplace, while business and information systems topics provide a framework for workplace effectiveness.
Study Abroad Opportunities
Students have the opportunity to undertake an Erasmus exchange in Year 3.
Work Placement
In Year 3, students can choose to go on a work placement.

Leaving Certificate Requirements
- Minimum Number of Subjects: 6
- Higher: 2 H5's
- Minimum Grade in Maths: O4/H7
- Minimum Grade in English OR Irish: O6/H7
QQI/FET Requirements
- QQI/FET Award Required: Level 5 or 6 award in a relevant discipline
- Additional Requirements:
- Level 5: 5 Distinctions Required, to include one of the following:
- B20012 Database Methods
- C20013 Computer Programming

Applications from mature students (23+) are welcome.
English Language Requirements
If English is not your first language you will need to provide evidence of your English language proficiency as detailed on our website. Applicants for this course should have a minimum IELTS (Academic Version) English Proficiency of 6 overall (or equivalent) with nothing less than 6 in each component.
