Overview

The Computing - Networking Technologies (Learn and Work) program is a professional traineeship course that provides a pipeline of skilled, in-demand, work-ready talent into STEM industries through industry partnership. This course is designed specifically to create work-ready university graduates in the shortest possible time-frame.

Course Structure

• Year One
  • Semester 1:
    • Business Communications [Mandatory]
    • Computer Systems Infrastructure [Mandatory]
    • Routing and Switching Essentials [Mandatory]
    • System Administration [Mandatory]
  • Semester 2:
    • Network Defence and Management [Mandatory]
    • Applied Learning in the Workplace [Mandatory]
• Year Two
  • Semester 1:
    • Scaling and Connecting Networks [Mandatory]
    • IoT Fundamentals and Security [Mandatory]
    • Virtualisation Technologies [Mandatory]
    • Server Administration [Mandatory]
  • Semester 2:
    • Work Based Learning & Project [Mandatory]

Professional Accreditation

Students can also avail of the opportunity to gain Industry Certified Awards, including:

• Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA)

Minimum Entry Requirements

Leaving Certificate Requirements

• Minimum Number of Subjects: 5
• Minimum Grade in Maths: O6/H7
• Minimum Grade in English OR Irish: O6/H7

QQI/FET Requirements

• QQI/FET Award Required: Any full Level 5 or 6 award
• Additional Requirements:
  • Must include a pass in 1 of the following:
    • Mathematics (C20139)
    • Mathematics (5N1833)
    • Mathematics (6N3395)
    • Mathematics for Computing (C20175)
    • Mathematics for Engineering (C20174)
    • Maths for Information Technology (5N18396)
    • LC Maths

Mature Applicants

• Mature applicants (i.e., those who are aged 23 years or more on 1st January in the year of entry) are not required to meet the leaving certificate or QQI requirements above.
• Applicants will be required to submit a CV.

Additional Requirements

• Applicants will be shortlisted for interview based on the information provided in their CV.
• Applicants will be requested to upload their CV at time of online application.
• CV’s generated by AI will not be considered.
• Shortlisted applicants must undertake an Interview with the course team.

English Language Requirements

• If English is not your first language, you will need to provide evidence of your English language proficiency as detailed on our website.

International Applicants

• This course is not open to applicants from outside the EU due to visa requirements which are not supported by this course.

Progression

• On successful completion, you’re eligible for Year 3 of TU765 Bachelor of Science in Computing in Digital Forensics and Cyber Security.
