What is Law?
The Bachelor of Arts in Law is a Level 7 degree that provides students with a firm grounding in the basic skills necessary to enter the legal profession. It also equips them with a broad range of transferable skills of benefit to a range of businesses.
Learning Outcome
Students will gain the ability to recognise and apply legal principles in a variety of factual contexts.
Examinations/Assessments
Assessment is by way of a mix of continuing assessment and examination. Examinations are held once per year in May.
Minimum Entry Requirements
Applicants will normally have a Bachelor’s degree (Level 7 or above) in any discipline or a Certificate in Legal Studies (minimum Level 6) from a recognised third-level institution. In the alternative, applicants should have two years’ experience in a workplace in which law features prominently (legal secretary/paralegal/executive, civil and public service, the legal department of a bank or insurance company, a member of An Garda Síochána or social worker). Applicants with other experience will be considered on a case by case basis and an interview may be required for all applicants.
Career Opportunities
The Bachelor of Arts offers a path-way to career advancement in the civil and public service, banking, insurance and other related industries. Former students have also sat and passed the Law Society entrance exams and moved onto a career as a solicitor. Following completion of the Bachelor of Arts, students may continue to the part-time LLB at TU Dublin. Students taking this route have qualified as Barristers or advanced their careers in business, the public sector, non-governmental organisations or An Garda Síochána.

Schedule
Students attend on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6pm-9pm for a total of 24 weeks, 12 in Semester 1 and 12 in Semester 2. Exams are held once per year in May.
