Leadership & Management in Social Care

Overview

This course is aimed at Social Care Workers who are currently in a leadership or management post or for those who wish to progress their careers. The course is designed to enable social care graduates to develop supervisory and management competencies.


Programme Vision

The vision for this course is to develop excellence in social care leadership and management in an evolving sector. Students will be facilitated to develop their capacities in delivering quality social care services grounded in the highest ethical standards of care, innovation and continuing education and research.


IT Requirements

Students on this course will be required to have a medium spec computer/laptop (i.e. able to run Win 10, an AV solution and Office comfortably. It should be able to use Wi-fi and camera in order to attend online classes, and use other software such as SPSS, Adobe Connect; e.g. Latitude 5510; Latitude 5410;


Minimum Entry Requirements

The minimum entry requirement for this course is a Bachelor of Arts in Social Care, Social Science or equivalent NFQ Level 7 award. In addition, applicants must have at least two years post qualification experience working in a recognised social care setting.


Career Opportunities

This course will equip graduates to compete for higher level roles in social care leadership and management. Graduates will be academically skilled to engage actively with relevant statutory and non-statutory agencies such as; TUSLA, the Child and Family Agency, the Department of Children and Youth Affairs, and the Ombudsman’s Office for Children.

Assessments

  • Modules will be assessed through a combination of ongoing assessments and exams. There will be an emphasis in assessments on the application of theoretical concepts to leadership and management practice in social care.
  • All students will complete research modules, culminating in an individual research project. Students will be engaged in research supervision throughout the process and are encouraged to complete research in a relevant area of interest.
