Overview

This one year programme has been designed with an emphasis on the practical application of Accounting and Finance knowledge to the commercial work place. It is intended for participants wishing to gain a solid foundation in the major components of the Accounting and Finance discipline and to allow them develop their financial literacy skills.

Aims and Objectives

The Diploma in Accounting and Finance is a learning and professional development programme, providing an understanding of accountancy, finance and business. This helps the candidate build technical knowledge, professional skills and practical experience needed to progress towards studying for a professional accounting qualification, studying a professional banking or finance qualification, or just as a means to develop their knowledge of accounting and finance.

The objectives of the Diploma in Accounting and Finance qualification are to:

• Equip learners with the relevant skills, knowledge and understanding in on the practical application of Accounting and Finance knowledge to the commercial workplace.
• Provide knowledge, skills and understanding for a range of careers in the accounting and finance disciplines.
• Provide opportunities for progression in their career, employability or to higher education qualifications.
• To provide learners with the opportunity to gain a solid foundation in the major components of the Accounting and Finance discipline and to allow them to develop their financial literacy skills.
• To provide learners with an opportunity to achieve a recognised qualification.
• To provide maximum flexibility to those wishing to pursue a career in accounting and finance.

Course Content

The Diploma in Accounting and Finance contains the following modules:

• Introduction to Finance
• Cost Accounting
• Business Management
• Corporate Finance
• Management Accounting
• Legal Environment for Business
• Accounting Software Systems

Diploma Structure

Our Finance and accounting Diploma is held over two evenings per a week over one year duration. The lecturing team consists of staff that combine both academic qualifications with substantial practical experience. A wide range of teaching techniques including lectures, seminars and case studies will form part of the course. The programme also encourages discussion and contributions from students on all aspects of accounting and finance.

This course is delivered online.

Progression to DBS Programmes

For students interested in further study, the Diploma in Accounting & Finance will entitle students to exemptions at Level 1 of some of the Evening Business, Marketing and Accounting & Finance (Hons) Degree programmes at DBS.

Student Profile

Participants on the programme have had no prior education in the subject areas of accounting and/or finance. Some students have completed the programme as a foundation programme with a view to progressing to degree or postgraduate/professional accountancy level. It is also beneficial to those who are not employed directly in an accounting related role but who are responsible for financial transactions in an organisation.

Fees

The fee for this course is €2,000. This is inclusive of tuition, registration, exam fees and DBS library membership. This fee must be paid in full before the course begins.

This programme is a KPA Level 4 Diploma in Accountancy and Finance (RQF). This is aligned to Level 6 on the Irish National Framework of Qualifications.
