Diploma in Data Analytics
Overview
Due to the emergence of various technologies, data is increasing exponentially, creating new opportunities and challenges. Data analytics courses equips learners with knowledge and skills to extract trends, patterns and useful insights from data allowing them to make better use of resources, operations and bring organisations to the next level. This programme equips learners with these modern analytical skills and the ability to analyse trends in data and generate business intelligence for enhanced business operations and better decision making in day to day business. There are many reasons why you should study at DBS. This diploma in Data Analytics has been designed for learners with non-cognate backgrounds and no technical knowledge or those with cognate background but lacking analytics skills and knowledge in the area of data analytics and business intelligence.
Programme Aims and Objectives
This programme aims to develop an understanding of the principles of data analytics and business intelligence in learners with non-IT and non-cognate educational and professional backgrounds. Using real life examples, learners will apply analytical processes, methods and algorithms to design and develop robust solutions to a range of business problems. They will learn to analyse data and develop predictive models by utilising easy to use tools. This diploma in Data Analytics will enable learners to apply their knowledge and skills of data analytics and business intelligence to the workplace and enhance business operations.

Assessment
To meet the requirements of the Diploma in Data Analytics a student will be required to complete two practical data analytics assignments: individual and group assignment (100%). The assignments will not only develop data analytics skills and knowledge but also help learners to develop problem-solving, time management, presentation, report writing and analytical skills.
Please note this programme is not on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ).
Course Content
The lecturing team consists of a team of staff that combine both academic qualifications with substantial practical experience, and this practical perspective is reflected in the delivery of the module. Some of the key subject areas are the following:
Importance of Data
- Types of data such as record data, ordered data, time-series data, etc.
- Quality data. Errors in data.
- Different types of attributes of data such as nominal, ordinal, interval and ratio.
- The data analytics life cycle.
- The types of data analytics.
Data sources
- Flat files, excel files, databases, such as relational databases etc.
Data Pre-processing
- Techniques such as aggregation, sampling, dimensionality reduction, Feature subset creation etc.
Statistical Techniques
- Measures of central tendency (mean, median, mode).
- Scatter chart, Correlation, Regression Analysis, Logistic regression, etc.
Supervised and Unsupervised Machine Learning
- Techniques such as decision trees, support vector machines., k-nearest neighbours, k-means clustering, neural networks, etc.
- Developing predictive models, testing techniques , validating models.
- Interpreting and Evaluating Results.
Data Visualization
- Connecting to different data sources, developing charts and graphs such as bar, line, pie charts, heat maps, bubble charts, motion charts, etc.
- Applying filters, creating groups, hierarchies and sets, etc.
- Creating stories and developing dashboards
Structure
The structure of this data analytics diploma will be as follows; the key subject areas are delivered over 12 weeks. There will be continuous assessment completed during the course. Each week will consist of a number of different activities which incorporate classroom, live discussion forums and Moodle resources. The programme is designed to provide students with the knowledge and the practical skills of data analytics to process data and to develop visuals and dashboards that can be applied to business.

Fees
The fee for this course is €1,500. This is inclusive of tuition, registration, exam fees and DBS library membership. This fee must be paid in full before the course begins.
