Overview

Logistics and Supply Chain Management is the management of the flow of goods and services and involves the active streamlining of a business or organisation’s raw materials and supply-side activities in order to maximise customer value, experience and organisational profit. This enables business to gain a competitive advantage in the marketplace. This Supply Chain Management course will enable learners to understand the key aspects and processes of supply chain management in order to better achieve better business goals. This diploma will offer learners the opportunity to acquire a new skill set that will enable them to work smarter to fulfil demand, drive customer value, enhance organisational processes and build network resiliency.

Programme Aims and Objectives

Aims of the Supply Chain Management Course

This programme is intended to provide learners with a practical understanding of supply chain management and the various aspects and roles within the supply chain that enable the maximisation of efficiencies and value in business.

Objectives

• Understanding what is supply chain management. To discover the everyday process of supply chain management and how inventory management can be achieved through purchasing, forecasting and transportation etc.
• Enable learners to think practically about the various processes within supply chain management and its application in industry.
• Provide learners with the opportunity to upskill or re-skill and make a positive contribution to their current organisation or a new organisation by gaining an understanding of supply chain management and logistics.

Assessment

• Written Individual Assignment: 70%
• Group presentation 30%

Students will be required to successfully complete a real-world case study. Students will be given a scenario where they take the role of a team of consultancy supply chain experts advising a client.

Please note this programme is not on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ).

Course Content

The lecturing team consists of a team of staff that combine both academic qualifications with substantial practical experience, and this practical perspective is reflected in the delivery of the modules of the Supply Chain Management course. Key subject areas include the following:

• Supply Chain Integration
• Forecasting
• Transportation
• Warehousing
• The Future of The Supply Chain

Structure

The key subject areas are delivered over 12 weeks with continuous assessment (group work). Each week will consist of a number of different activities which incorporate classroom, Ted talks about practical elements of Supply Chain Management, live discussion forums and Moodle resources. The programme is designed to provide students with understanding of the role of supply chain management within the contemporary business sphere.

This course is delivered online.

Career Opportunities

On completion of the logistics and supply chain management course students will have the knowledge and skills of the broad areas of supply chain and broader management perspective and will be able to work in different areas of business, as the supply chain industry is continuing to grow. Students may use this qualification to advance within their current role and organization, or may have discovered a particular affiliation for a subject area that may encourage a career change or further study.

Student Profile

The programme is aimed at individuals who are currently working in organisations who have large supply chains and would like to have the opportunity to expand their business knowledge in order to transfer into a supply chain role within their organisation, or those who are currently working in supply chain who would like to gain a qualification in this area. This includes individuals who are currently working in technology rich industries such as pharmaceuticals, medical device companies, component parts, manufacturing or biotechnology companies.

Typically, students participating in this programme have come from a variety of backgrounds. Many of them are professionals in industry willing to upskill themselves in the subject areas in order to keep the pace up with the changing trends in Supply Chain Management in a global and increasingly digitalised marketplace.

Fees

The fee for the Diploma in Supply Chain Management & Logistics is €1,500. This is inclusive of tuition, registration, exam fees and DBS library membership. This fee must be paid in full before the course begins.
