Programme Description

The general purpose of the program is twofold. On the one hand, to help the student acquire in-depth knowledge in the field of specialization through (a) attending pedagogical courses at an advanced level, (b) studying relevant literature, and (c) interacting with the Members of the Department of Education and other students. On the other hand, the program aims to cultivate research skills through (a) attending specialized courses in quantitative and qualitative research, (b) conducting small-scale research within the framework of various courses or/and writing a Master's Thesis, and (c) participating in seminars/conferences with research content.

Admission Requirements

  • Minimum requirement for admission to the postgraduate program is a Bachelor's degree from a recognized university.
  • Additionally, applicants must meet the following admission criteria:
    • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
    • Certified Copy of Degree
    • Certified Copy of Analytical Grading
    • Personal Statement and Research Interests (approximately 2 pages) – A letter outlining the applicant's skills and abilities, their biography, as well as their expectations from the program and how it will help them in their personal development and career advancement.

Assessment

  • Courses include lectures, assignments, teleconferences, and a final examination at the end of each semester.
  • There is continuous assessment with a weight of approximately 40%.
  • For continuous assessment, there are mandatory weekly interactive activities and a choice of other assignments/studies/presentations or/and evaluation of positive participation in the course.
  • There is also a final assessment with a weight that varies between 60%. The student is informed about their performance in each course. The grades of the individual courses are combined, and, based on a specific logarithm, the weighted average of the semester and the cumulative weighted average for the entire studies are calculated.

Graduation Requirements

  • The student must complete 90 ECTS and all program requirements.
  • Must complete courses, in the correct ratio of compulsory and elective, which amount to 90 ECTS credit units.
  • A minimum weighted average of 2.0 in the entire studies is required.
  • The student must successfully complete:
    • Two Research and Evaluation courses (20 ECTS)
    • Two courses from the Theoretical Foundations of Education (20 ECTS)
    • Two compulsory direction courses (20 ECTS) and three elective direction courses (30 ECTS) (Total 50 ECTS)
  • In case the student chooses the Master's Thesis (30 ECTS), they are exempt from one course of the Theoretical Foundations of Education cycle (10 ECTS) and two elective direction courses (20 ECTS).

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:


  1. Acquire in-depth knowledge in the field of specialization.
  2. Understand basic concepts, principles, and models of the specialization they have chosen and transfer this knowledge to the school context.
  3. Examine critically the results of research in the specialization and their implications for the problems faced by the school unit and the education system.
  4. Identify problems at the level of the school unit and the system and plan research to address them.
  5. Analyze educational problems critically, examining their sociological, psychological, and philosophical dimensions, and design action to address them.
  6. Take on leadership roles related to the specialization with the aim of improving existing practices or introducing new procedures.
  7. Contribute to the modernization of practices applied in the specialization, e.g., Special Education.
  8. Apply skills acquired to address everyday problems, e.g., student/system/program evaluation, planning, and decision-making, communication with internal and external audiences, guidance, training, and development.
  9. Utilize human capital in introducing innovations and new practices and procedures.
  10. Act as agents of change and innovation and support improvement efforts.
