Overview

Nestled right in the heart of New York City—one of the world’s biggest tech hubs—Queens College offers world-class courses and facilities for a major in computer science.


A degree in computer science is a launching pad for technology-related professions as well as graduate study. The Queens College computer science department frequently coordinates career opportunities for its majors with industry and government agencies.


With technology becoming increasingly integrated into every aspect of society, a background in computer science is more in demand than ever. If you have strengths in the areas of technology and problem solving, a computer science major may be the right fit.


BA or BS? Major or Minor?

Queens College undergraduate majors in computer science can choose between Bachelor of Science (BS) and Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree programs. The BS expands on the BA with more computer science, experimental lab courses and mathematics. The department also offers undergraduate minors in:


  • computer science
  • computer information technology
  • computational linguistics

Additionally, in collaboration with the accounting and economics departments, the computer science department has created a minor in financial modelling designed to provide students majoring in computer science or finance with the necessary interdisciplinary skills for a career in the financial services industry.

One of the research labs available to students is the Uncertainty Reasoning Laboratory (URL Lab). Its investigations center on developing tools and methods for reasoning, learning and decision making under uncertainty and bring researchers together from multiple disciplines such as computational biology and big data analytics.

Student services

The Global Student Success Office is committed to supporting your journey at Queens College from your initial application through to graduation. The office assists with many aspects of your student life, including expediting your admission process, offering orientation programs as you transition to the American classroom, and providing academic and social experiences scheduled throughout the year.


Housing services

Conveniently located on the beautiful Queens College campus between the library and the gymnasium, The Summit offers apartment-style housing with single bedrooms or shared bedrooms. The Summit also has a fitness center, private rehearsal spaces, laundry facilities, cable TV, Wi-Fi, Residence Life Cinema (offering 150 movie titles per month) and more. The Courtesy Desk is staffed 24 hours a day for your convenience.


Library services

Two libraries with three extensive collections on campus: Benjamin S. Rosenthal Library which holds the principal collection and hosts the Art Library and Art Center at Queens College. The Music Library is located in the Music Building on campus.

Student clubs

The Student Association (SA) is responsible for representing and uniting the members of the undergraduate and graduate student body to protect and promote your interests. The association acts on behalf of the student body through communication with the administration, staff, and faculty on matters of student concern.
