Overview

The University of Bridgeport offers dental hygiene programs that combine general education courses with courses from the Fones School of Dental Hygiene (FSDH) to provide a comprehensive education. Dental Hygiene, AS

  • Combines general education and Fones School of Dental Hygiene courses
  • Two-year curriculum provides education in prevention service and dental health education
  • Earn an associate degree in Dental Hygiene in CT at University of Bridgeport

Dental Hygiene, BS

  • Completed through the integration of associate degree dental hygiene courses and bachelor’s degree courses
  • Or by continuing studies after completing an associate degree at an accredited School of Dental Hygiene

Dental Hygiene, MS (online)

  • Expand career into education and public health
  • Gain theory and practical experience from faculty experts from UB’s Fones School of Dental Hygiene
  • Develop proficiency through student teaching and the concentrated practicum

Dental Hygiene postgraduate education

  • Continuing education courses for licensed dental hygienists

Program Details

  • The core of the dental hygiene program is 73 credits
  • The associate degree covers the core programs
  • The bachelor’s program covers the core 73 credits, with additional courses to reach a total of 120 credits and earn a Bachelor of Science degree in dental hygiene
  • In the first year, students participate in a classroom and lab experience called pre-clinic
  • After completing pre-clinic, students move onto their clinical experience where they will see real patients
  • Clinical experience continues until graduation from the program
  • Online options are available for students pursuing their bachelor’s or master’s in dental hygiene
  • Internships are available to UB dental hygiene students the summer after their first year in the program
  • Licensure is achieved by taking the National Board Dental Hygiene exams, which students prepare for throughout their time in the UB dental hygiene program
