Course Overview
This qualification reflects the role of community services workers involved in the delivery, management, and coordination of person-centred services to individuals, groups, and communities.
At this level, workers have specialized skills in community services and work autonomously within their scope of practice under broad directions from senior management.
Workers support people to make change in their lives to improve personal and social wellbeing and may also have responsibility for the supervision of other workers and volunteers. They may also undertake case management and program coordination.
The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian standards, and industry codes of practice.
The CHC52021 Diploma of Community Services is only delivered at Windsor Campus in a blended learning mode (20 hours in the classroom and 400 hours of work placement).

- Be at least 18 years of age and have completed the equivalent of Year 12.

Course Structure
Twelve (12) core units and eight (8) elective units are required for the award of the CHC52021 Diploma of Community Services and a total of 400 hours of work placement divided into two blocks of 200 hours each.

Course Location and Duration
The CHC52021 Diploma of Community Services is delivered at Windsor Campus:

Duration :
This qualification will be delivered over 104 weeks, including 80 weeks of training and assessment spread over 8 terms and 24 weeks of holidays.
Class sessions: 20 hours per week
New Era Institute encourages students to bring their own devices to the campus (where there is free wireless internet connection).
Work Placement and Assessment Arrangements
Students will be required to complete 400 hours of work placement in 2 blocks of 200 hours per placement.
Students will be required to complete up to 8 theory-based units before commencing the work placement 1 and again another term(s) of study before commencing the Work Placement 2.
The placement provides students with the opportunity to gain real work experience in their chosen industry, to gain access to a potential future employer, and for the host employer to support students who could be their future employees.
Students must undergo a police check prior to placement which will be at the student’s own cost. Immunisations may also be required – this will be advised by the student’s workplace.
Additional Work Placement requirements:
- Possess a Police check (which is required for placement) using the link
- Have a reasonable level of fitness to complete manual and physically demanding tasks, such as bending, lifting and standing for long periods of time.
- Updated Vaccination/immunisation Records (influenza and COVID-19 Vaccines)

Assessment Arrangements
Assessment will occur through a variety of methods, including projects incorporating role-plays, case studies, observations, and short answer questions.
Assessment conditions will ensure a simulated workplace environment for classroom-based assessment.
Credit Transfer
Students can apply for credit transfer where there is an exact match of the units of competency within the course achieved through an accredited VET qualification in an approved registered training organisation (RTO).
FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
If credit transfer is approved, the student’s Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) will be adjusted to reflect any reduction in the period of study the student is enrolled in. The study load will remain the scheduled 20 hours per week as per the student visa requirements.

Students who complete this course may wish to continue their education into CHC62015 Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management or higher education qualification in community services.
