Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care

Course Description

The Certificate III in Early Childcare Education and Care is delivered from our Windsor (Regional NSW) campus. This qualification reflects the role of educators in early childhood education and care who work in regulated children’s education and care services in Australia. They support children’s wellbeing and development in the context of an approved learning framework. Educators use a range of well-developed skills and knowledge using discretion and judgment when carrying out their work in the context of established policies and procedures. They may work independently or under the guidance of others, though in some contexts that guidance may not be on-site.


Early childhood educators work in long day care centres, family day care, pre-schools or kindergartens.


To achieve a certificate 3 in childcare at New Era Institute, students must complete a total of 180 hours of work in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency.

Qualification Description

Minimum entry requirements:


  • Are over the age of 18 years old
  • Have evidence of English Language competency
  • Meet the student visa requirements

Additional Work Placement requirements:


  • Possess a Police check (which is required for placement).
  • Have a Working With Children Check (WWCC)
  • Have a reasonable level of fitness to complete manual and physically demanding tasks, such as bending, lifting, and standing for long periods of time.

Course Location and Duration

This course is delivered at the following address:


Windsor (Regional NSW) Campus: Suite 13 & 14, 100 George Street Windsor NSW 2756


Duration: 52 weeks comprising of 40 scheduled tuition weeks (including 9 weeks (180 hours) of work placement) and 12 weeks of term breaks.


Delivery Method

20 hours per week of classroom-based learning, 180 hours of Work Placement hours and each week of the course has approximately 10 hours of self-study time.


Placement Arrangements

Students are required to complete 180 hours of work placement. Placements will be in an accredited childcare centres. New Era Institute (NEI) has agreements with workplaces to provide suitable placements for students. Students are encouraged to look for their childcare centres to complete their practical.

Credit Transfer

Students can apply for credit transfer where there is an exact match of the units of competency within the course achieved through an accredited VET qualification in an approved registered training organisation (RTO).


Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Applicants can apply for recognition of their existing skills and knowledge that are relevant to the units of competency within the course. These skills and knowledge may have been obtained through workplace training or experience and may reduce the number of units required to be completed during the course.


Exit Point

Students who do not complete the course may be issued a Statement of Attainment (SOA) reflecting the units they have successfully completed.

Upon successful completion of this course, students may choose to further their studies by enrolling in programs such as the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.
