Course Highlights
- The penultimate course in the Bike Guide Program, teaching the fundamentals of backcountry guiding in a variety of mountain bike situations.
- Students learn the skills to prepare for mountain biking in the backcountry.
- Focus for this course is on leadership abilities and adaptability on the trail to prepare students for potential guiding careers.

Who Is It For?
- Students enrolled in the Bike Guide program with an advanced level of biking on blue and single black diamond trails comparable to those in BC, Canada.
Topics
- General guiding principles and understanding of group dynamics
- Coaching riders to improve skills and create progression
- Briefing clients both pre and post
- Route planning and trail selection
- Lead guiding vs sweep guiding
- Trail etiquette, permits and permission
- Risk management including liability, insurance and participant waiver/medical forms
- Leave No Trace for mountain biking
- Equipment needs and emergency planning techniques
Outcomes
- Possess the skills to feel prepared to guide clients in a backcountry environment up to an advanced level understanding route planning, trail etiquette and the different roles of guides on the trail.
