  • Students learn the skills to prepare for mountain biking in the backcountry.
  • Focus for this course is on leadership abilities and adaptability on the trail to prepare students for potential guiding careers.

  • Students enrolled in the Bike Guide program with an advanced level of biking on blue and single black diamond trails comparable to those in BC, Canada.

  • General guiding principles and understanding of group dynamics
  • Coaching riders to improve skills and create progression
  • Briefing clients both pre and post
  • Route planning and trail selection
  • Lead guiding vs sweep guiding
  • Trail etiquette, permits and permission
  • Risk management including liability, insurance and participant waiver/medical forms
  • Leave No Trace for mountain biking
  • Equipment needs and emergency planning techniques

Outcomes

  • Possess the skills to feel prepared to guide clients in a backcountry environment up to an advanced level understanding route planning, trail etiquette and the different roles of guides on the trail.
