Program Overview
About the programme
The Master in French as a Foreign Language degree is awarded by Sorbonne University in Paris and delivered by world-class academics in Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi. The programme is the only programme of its kind in the United Arab Emirates. It enables students to learn the necessary skills to teach French worldwide and especially in Arab speaking regions. The programme also delivers the necessary knowledge to work in the fields of creation and marketing of products related to the French language (in economy or tourism).
Programme structure
- The Master in French as a Foreign Language is taught in French and spans across 4 semesters over 2 years.
- Classes are taught in the evening to allow working professionals to combine their professional and study schedules.
Internship
- Students not yet having work experience in the field of French as a Foreign Language will have to take a mandatory internship during the second semester of each year.
- These internships nurture the development of critical thinking and enhance the student’s skills by allowing him to apply the acquired knowledge into the professional world.
- Students must submit an internship report.

Admission requirements
- Bachelor in a relevant field with a CGPA of 3 out of 4 or equivalent.
- Candidates with a GPA between 2.5 and 2.99 (or equivalent scores as per the equivalency table) may be conditionally admitted under probation during the first semester.
- Bachelor with minimum of 2nd class honours
- Bachelor with an average of 12 out of 20
- B2 level in French language proficiency certificate (DELF or DALF, SELFEE, TCF with a validity of 2 years, TEF with a validity of 2 years) or Native French speaker who completed at least full 3 years in a French medium institution within a maximum period of 3 years or students with SUAD DU
- Shortlisted candidates will be asked to attend an interview to assess the candidate’s motivation, career expectations and relevant professional experience in the degree area.
Assessment and graduation requirements
- Throughout the year, there will be frequent assessments and evaluations.
- Students will be evaluated on individual assignments, presentations, reports and examinations and internship reports to be submitted towards the end of the semester.
- Attendance to all classes is mandatory and it is important that students are punctual and observe university regulations at all times.

- 25% academic excellence scholarship
- New joiners are eligible to 25% scholarship on tuition starting from the 1st semester.
- To be eligible, applicants are required to meet one of the below criteria:
- Bachelor CGPA average of 3.6/4.0 and above, or equivalent
- Bachelor with Final Average of 15/20 above
- Bachelor with first class honors
- Candidates graduating as the top of class, despite the average
- Preferential rates
- 20% Alumni preferential rate
- Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi alumni are eligible to a 20% waiver on tuition fee.
- 25% preferential rate upon enrolment on a second master’s degree
- Applicants holding a master degree from SUAD and enrolling for a second master degree at SUAD are entitled to a 25% waiver on tuition.
- 5%-15% corporate rate
- Companies and organizations benefit from a special discount, based on the number of employees enrolling in programmes.
- 10% Family discount
- Students who have a first-degree relative currently enrolled in an undergraduate or a postgraduate programmes are eligible for a 10% discount.
- 20% Alumni preferential rate
Career prospects
- Graduates from the Master in French as a Foreign Language can apply for Teaching Positions in middle school, high school and at a university level.
- They can also apply for Professional Training positions in the tourism, culture and health sectors.
- In addition, they can apply for positions in cultural and diplomatic services in francophone countries, or for Administrative Positions in public and private institutions.
- They can also pursue a career in companies specialised in marketing of editorial products that promote the French language and culture throughout the world. These opportunities are rich in the UAE and in other countries of the Middle East, as they have important cultural relations with France.
