About this Micro-Credential

This Micro-Credential is a 20 credit programme at Level 4. It will be delivered over 14 weeks with one 4 hour taught session per week, held from 17:00 – 21:00, at our Europa Point Campus. This course is designed to give students the core knowledge and skills needed to be an effective and successful tutor/trainer. It will enable students to build their understanding of the various roles and responsibilities of a tutor and how to effectively assess and meet learners’ needs. Students will learn how to create and implement teaching plans and how to use a range of teaching tools and techniques to ensure learning objectives are met. They will also gain an understanding of how to assess learners’ progress and provide feedback, as well as how to use different teaching methods to ensure positive outcomes for learners.

• Planning, Delivering and Assessing Teaching and Learning
• The Reflective and Reflexive Professional

Who is this course for?

This course is for:

• Those who work, or want to work as tutors/trainers (outside of a school setting)
• Trainers who are seeking career progression in their area of work
• Those working with learners on a one-to-one basis
• Those who train in industry (e.g. HR staff, L&D officers, etc.)
• Those within education in a support role who wish to gain a better understanding of supporting learners
• Assessors who wish to achieve a teaching/training qualification.

All learners must have access to a minimum of 30 hours of teaching practice.

What is a micro-credential?

Micro-credentials offer a flexible, targeted way to develop the knowledge, skills and competences in areas useful to personal and professional development. A micro-credential certificate is an award which certifies the learning outcomes of a short-term learning experience. A micro-credential certificate may be used towards Recognition of Prior Learning for an applicant seeking admission to a relevant programme.

Entry Profile

Typically candidates will have:

• At least a good level of high-school Maths and English (GCSE, Grade C, Grade 5, or equivalent).
• Proven ICT skills in word-processing, database management, email and Internet are a requirement. Students must also be able to communicate their ideas effectively in writing, in discussions and media presentations.

If English is not the student’s first language they must have one of the following qualifications as evidence of English language skills:

• IELTS: 6.5 with 5.5 minimum in each skill
• Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): Grade C
• Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE): Grade B
• Pearson Test of English (Academic): 60 with 51 in each component
• IBT TOEFL: 90 with no subtest less than 17
