About this programme
The Postgraduate Open Degree at the University of Gibraltar has been designed to provide participants with the flexibility and freedom to tailor their studies according to their personal interests and professional needs. Embedded in the concepts of lifelong learning and continuous professional development, this programme allows individuals to use education as an ongoing journey rather than a one-time achievement.
Unlike traditional postgraduate programmes that follow a fixed structure, this degree offers a unique opportunity for learners who may not wish to commit to a time-intensive one- or two-year programme. Instead, students can spread their learning across multiple disciplines or focus on deepening their expertise within their chosen professional field.
Programme Structure
The Postgraduate Open Degree enables students to build their own qualification by selecting from a variety of postgraduate-level modules and micro-credentials currently offered at the University of Gibraltar. To earn the full 180-credit Master’s award at Level 7, students will complete a selection of modules tailored to their learning objectives.
For those looking to pursue research, there is an option to complete a final 60-credit thesis, which must be complemented by a 15-credit research studies module. Students will have up to five years to complete their degree, allowing them to determine the pace and intensity of their studies based on their personal and professional commitments.
Programme Aims
The Postgraduate Open Degree aims to:
- Provide greater accessibility to postgraduate education through a highly flexible programme structure.
- Offer students the ability to personalise their learning by selecting modules and micro-credentials that align with their goals.
- Support the development of individual capabilities based on each student’s unique interests and career aspirations.
- Strengthen academic and professional skills at a Level 7 standard, preparing graduates for advanced roles in their respective fields.
