Programme Overview

The MSc Engineering Management programme addresses a critical skills gap in the industry for engineers proficient in project management, capable of leading engineering projects across various sectors with a balanced emphasis on technical excellence and management skills. It is a dynamic and challenging programme that merges thorough technical knowledge with a range of personal attributes and business acumen. This programme is designed for professionals with some industrial experience who aspire to transition into management roles.


Programme Modules

  • Engineering Group Project (60 Credits) - Compulsory
    • Module aims to develop a student's team working skills in planning and execution of a group product development exercise, drawing on their acquired knowledge from other modules appropriate to their programme. In addition, the module aims to develop a student's communication skills to enable them to communicate their findings in a written and group presentation.
  • Engineering Project Management (30 Credits) - Compulsory
    • The aim of this module is to prepare students to be able to apply project management techniques to achieve quality engineering solutions using human and financial resources in a given time frame. On the completion of the module, the successful student will be able to: 1. understand the principles of project management and their limitations; 2. plan a project process including recruitment and managing a project team; 3. be able to make decisions on the use of resources in an engineering project; and 4. evaluate project costs and schedules.
  • Engineering Simulation (30 Credits) - Compulsory
    • This module will enable students to understand the scientific methods underlying the modelling of real systems. It will further expand their understanding of a range of sophisticated mathematical techniques and simulation methods using the examples facilitated by engineering systems. Case studies will be used to illustrate how models can be validated against real measurements. Assessment procedures are designed to enable students to deliver academically significant modelling performances.
  • Human Resource Management in Engineering (15 Credits) - Compulsory
    • This module enables students to apply a range of human resource management techniques in engineering management situations.
  • Financial Management in Engineering (15 Credits) - Compulsory
    • This module enables students to use financial management tools to achieve engineering solutions using financial resources.
  • Logistics and Supply Chain (30 Credits) - Compulsory
    • The aim of the module is to understand the operation of supply chains in an engineering enterprise and to be able to control the logistical operation. On the completion of the module, the successful student will be able to: Understand the impact of the supply chain on an engineering enterprise, understand how to model a supply chain, make decisions on the use of resources by evaluating costs and schedules to achieve a logistics strategy and critically evaluate the performance of the logistics network on the business.

    • We are among the few universities in the region offering a programme in Engineering Management, drawing graduates from diverse engineering disciplines and enriching the classroom experience with varied perspectives. During the programme you will develop the skills and knowledge to successfully accomplish the objectives of an engineering project.

    • During programme you will work with some of our key industry partners including Microsoft, Dell, IBM, Oracle, SAP and Cisco Net ensuring you have access to the latest technical equipment and software. You will also have access to specialist teaching materials and workshops to enrich your learning experience.

Programme Delivery

  • In Person Delivery
    • Taught sessions are delivered Monday – Friday between 6.30PM and 9.30PM at our Dubai Knowledge Park campus providing you with the opportunity to study whilst you work. Additional sessions might be scheduled over weekends or holiday periods with prior notice. You will be expected to attend session per week per module, expect where otherwise stated in the programme timetable. Attending scheduled weekly classes is an important requirement for the completion of this programme.
  • Online/Hybrid Delivery
    • Study from the comfort of your own home through live interactive sessions and asynchronous learning delivered during weekly session on Fridays and Saturdays. These sessions will be delivered using a variety of interactive learning technologies and you will have access to our virtual labs and Virtual Learning Platform. You will also be supported by our expert faculty with virtual one to one consultations throughout your programme.
  • Optional Residential Trip to Dubai For Online/Hybrid Delivery Option
    • If you choose to study the MSc Engineering Management programme online you will have the opportunity to meet your cohort and faculty during an optional two-week residential trip in Dubai. The residential programme includes interactive workshops and engaging sessions with faculty and industry experts at our Dubai Knowledge Park campus. Supported by our advanced knowledge enterprises, including the Centre for Innovation in the Human Experience, these sessions will provide practical knowledge and skills in innovation management, entrepreneurship, public speaking, networking, and emerging technologies like AI and VR. During the two-week residential, you will attend talks by invited speakers, participate in field visits, and explore Dubai. Special accommodation packages at the Myriad Residence are available for students who wish to attend.

Teaching

  • WORLD-CLASS FACULTY WITH A WEALTH OF INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE.
    • Classes are held at our Dubai Knowledge Park campus on weekdays (Monday to Friday) from 6:30pm to 9:30pm.
    • Occasional weekend or holiday sessions may also be scheduled with prior notice. Most modules include one session per week, with exceptions noted in the timetable. For the Dissertation, you'll work independently.
