Teacher Apprenticeship

ABOUT THE COURSE

Overview

Teaching is an exciting and fast-paced career. Every day is different and you can make a real difference to the lives of young people. This apprenticeship leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in primary or secondary education. As a Teacher Apprentice, you will also have the opportunity to study for an optional qualification with our PGCE non-QTS.

Primary Teacher Apprentices learn the subject knowledge and practical skills to teach the primary curriculum. Secondary Teacher Apprentices develop their understanding of how to teach young people in an engaging and supportive way. Both primary and secondary apprentice teachers will gain an understanding of how children and young people learn. You'll get to put this knowledge into practice as classroom teachers.

DELIVERY

This is a 13 to 18 month (tbc for 2025/26) apprenticeship (including the End Point Assessment (EPA) and subject to employment contract terms and conditions) is a mixed delivery model.

Entry requirements

  • Potential apprentices will need to be employed in the field of study (see occupational profile) and have GCSE in English and Mathematics at grade A to C, or grade 4 to 9.
  • They need a relevant degree accepted by their employer to teach within the school environment.
  • Primary school setting teachers also require a GCSE grade A to C or 4 to 9 in Science.

Fees per apprentice for the whole duration (paid every month and is an estimate)

  • Levy employer: £9,000
  • Non-levy employer: please email or call +44 (0) for more information.
  • The apprentice will not be required to pay any fees.

Schools and academies embarking on the apprenticeship scheme may be eligible for bursaries which they can use towards apprentice wages. For more information see getintoteaching.education.gov.uk.

Progression

  • On completion, full-time employment and additional CPD as required.
