About our foundation years

UEL's Foundation Year courses are designed for students who are returning to education after a long time, don't have the qualifications for direct entry into degree programs, are thinking of re-training, or are international students wanting an additional year to adapt to the UK academic system.


Terms and Conditions

The Terms of Admittance govern the contractual relationship between the student and UEL. A contract is entered into once a student accepts an offer of a place on a program at UEL.


1) Student enrolment

Enrolment at UEL requires students to ensure that the university is holding the correct personal details, agree to abide by regulations and policies, and pay tuition fees or confirm who is paying the fees.


2) Tuition fees

Tuition fees are determined by the program being studied, whether the student is studying full-time or part-time, and whether the student is a UK/EU or international student.


3) Student ID Cards

Students are required to provide proof of identity at initial enrolment and prior to the issue of their UEL student ID card.


4) Proof of qualifications

Students are required to produce evidence of having satisfied the entry requirements for their program.


5) Non-academic entry requirements

Students may need to demonstrate that they have met non-academic entry requirements prior to enrolment.


6) Criminal convictions

UEL has a responsibility to safeguard staff, students, and the wider community. Students are required to inform UEL of any relevant criminal convictions.


7) Providing false information to UEL

If a student is discovered to have falsified or misrepresented information presented to UEL, they may be expelled.


8) Continued enrolment and student status

Students are expected to abide by all UEL policies and regulations.


9) Changes to scheduled programs

UEL will take all reasonable steps to ensure that the program of study conforms to the program specification published on the website.


10) Changes to these terms

UEL may change these terms from time to time.


11) Data Protection

UEL is committed to adhering to its obligations under the Data Protection Act 2018.


12) Intellectual property

Students are entitled to the intellectual property rights created during their time studying at UEL.


13) How we communicate with you

UEL will communicate with students via a variety of channels, including postal letters, email, SMS text messages, and online notices.


14) University of East London Students' Union

The University of East London Students' Union (UELSU) represents students at UEL.


15) Students studying at partner institutions

If a student is undertaking a program of study at a partner institution, they will need to abide by the terms and conditions of both UEL and the partner institution.


16) International students - additional responsibilities

All international students must comply with UK Visa and Immigration requirements.


17) Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

18) Complaints

UEL welcomes feedback on its programs and services.


19) Cancellation

If a student wishes to cancel this contract within 14 days of enrolment, they must do so in writing.


20) Further guidance

If any of the information in these Terms of Admittance or related policies is unclear, students should contact The Hub for guidance.


21) Right to advice

This is a consumer contract, and students are able to obtain independent advice in relation to its terms and conditions from UELSU.


22) General

Neither the student nor UEL will be liable for failure to perform their obligations under these Terms of Admittance if such failure arises from unforeseeable events.


23) Performing Arts Prof Doc

The Professional Doctorate in Performing Arts is intended for practitioners across a range of performance-based disciplines.

  • Home Applicant, Full-time, 3 years, £6,320 per year
  • Home Applicant, Part-time, 5 years, £3,160 per year
  • International Applicant, Full-time, 3 years, £16,900 per year

Fees, funding and additional costs

  • Fees: EU, EEA, and Swiss Nationals starting a course from September 2021 will no longer be eligible for Home fees.
  • Funding: Postgraduate Loans Scheme, Postgraduate Scholarship, Alumni Discount, Early Payment Discount, Asylum Seekers scholarship, Civic Engagement, Hardship Bursary, Sport Scholarships
  • Additional costs: Textbooks, Computer equipment, Printing, Travel
