About our foundation years

Our Foundation Year courses are perfect for you if you:


  • are returning to education after a long time, or you don't have the qualifications for direct entry into our degree programmes
  • are thinking of re-training and would like an introduction to the area
  • are an international student wanting an additional year to adapt to the UK academic system
  • are still evaluating which degree pathway at UEL is the right one for you

Please note: Foundation years can only be studied full-time. However, you can transfer to part-time delivery once you have completed your foundation year. Please apply to the full-time option if you wish to study in this way.


Independent and Supplementary Prescribing PGCert

Overview

Our PGCert in Independent and Supplementary Prescribing supports registered healthcare practitioners (nurses, midwives, and allied health professionals) in the UK to develop the knowledge, understanding, and skills required to practice as safe, effective, and competent independent and supplementary prescribers.


Entry Requirements

  • Have a bachelor's degree in a health-related subject with a minimum 2:2 honours classification.
  • Applicants should be currently working in a health care environment for a minimum of 20 hours a week.
  • Applicants will be required to hold a professional registration with a relevant UK professional/statutory body, for example the NMC, HCPC or GPhC.
  • Where applicants do not hold a first degree, applications will be considered on an individual basis. However, applicants will be required to submit evidence of relevant experience and continued professional development.

Fees

  • Home Applicant: £2840 per year
  • International Applicant: £13,100 per year

Course Modules

  • Independent and Supplementary Prescribing Core Module

Assessment

  • Numeracy written exam (30 minutes)
  • Pharmacy written exam (90 minutes)
  • Practice-based portfolio including the Royal Pharmaceutical Competency Framework
  • Formulary reflecting scope of practice
  • 2 extended case studies (2500 words each)
