If you want to pursue, or advance, a career in financial management, this master's course is a great choice. It is designed for anyone who wants to gain the professional qualifications of the Chartered Banker Institute (CBI) Investment Management Certificate (IMC) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). The course is one of only a handful of its kind to be accredited by the CBI, giving our students the chance to apply for Associated Membership and enjoy Associate Chartered Banker status. We work closely with the CBI to ensure our course continues to meet the Institute's high standards and gives our graduates the most relevant, sought-after skills.

You will gain skills in financial analysis and econometrics to help prepare you for the course's practical, research-focused assignments and a career in the industry, learning about financial risk management and how this affects company behaviour.

Our students come from all over the world and are motivated to learn in the financial capital with all of the advantages that brings. Based in Stratford, close to the financial powerhouses of the City of London and Canary Wharf, you will live and breathe the financial services industry with this hands-on course.

Entry Requirements

Academic Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with minimum Second Class (2:2) or equivalent in Business, Finance, Economics or in the Applied Mathematical Sciences with some Economics courses.
• International Qualifications: We accept a wide range of European and international qualifications in addition to A-levels, the International Baccalaureate and BTEC qualifications.

English Language Requirements

• Overall IELTS 6.0 with a minimum of 6.0 in Writing, Speaking, Reading and Listening (or recognised equivalent).
• If you do not meet the academic English language requirements for your course, you may be eligible to enrol onto a pre-sessional English course.

Mature Applicants and Those Without Formal Qualifications

• As an inclusive university, we recognise those who have been out of education for some time may not have the formal qualifications usually required. We welcome applications from those who can demonstrate their enthusiasm and commitment to study and have the relevant life/work experience that equips them to succeed on the course.

Fees, Funding and Additional Costs

Fees

• EU, EEA and Swiss Nationals starting a course from September 2021, will no longer be eligible for Home fees.
• Tuition fees are subject to annual change.

Funding

• Postgraduate Loans Scheme: £10,280 to fund your Masters Programme under the Postgraduate Loans (PGL) scheme.
• Postgraduate Scholarship: Apply for a 50 per cent discount on your tuition fees!
• Alumni Discount: up to 15% fee waiver (exclusions apply).
• Early Payment Discount: 5% fee waiver.
• Asylum Seekers scholarship: 100% fee waiver.
• Civic Engagement: £1,000.
• Hardship Bursary: up to £2,000.
• Sport Scholarships: Up to £6,000.

Additional Costs

• Textbooks: Our libraries are a valuable resource with an extensive collection of books and journals as well as first-class facilities and IT equipment. You may prefer to, or be required to, buy your own copy of key textbooks.
• Computer equipment: There are open-access networked computers available across the University, plus laptops available to loan. You may find it useful to have your own PC, laptop or tablet which you can use around campus and in halls of residences.
• Printing: In the majority of cases, coursework can be submitted online. There may be instances when you will be required to submit work in a printed format. Printing and photocopying costs are not included in your tuition fees.
• Travel: Travel costs are not included but we do have a free intersite bus service which links the campuses and halls of residence.

How You'll Learn

• Throughout the course, you will find an emphasis on collecting, modelling and analysing data to improve your skills and understanding.
• You will have access to the same trading, Datastream and e-stream databases that are used by financial professionals.
• You will be using trading terminals in exactly the same way as traders in stocks and shares, derivatives and bonds to build and oversee a portfolio (although you won’t be putting your own - or anyone else's - money at risk.)

How You'll Be Assessed

• You will take a variety of assessments. These include individual and group assignments, presentations and examinations. Emphasis is on collecting and collating real data and developing advanced skills in modelling using this data.
