Program Overview
Cyber Diplomacy MSc
Overview
This course will provide you with an opportunity to analyse the complex factors that contribute to and shape international cyber conflict. You'll learn to demonstrate an understanding of confidence-building measures as well as the socio-political complexities and legal challenges stemming from issues of attribution, accountability, and sovereignty, as well as meet current global cyber diplomacy priorities and capacity building.
Course Options
- MSc: Min 2:2 honours degree in Computer Science, Businesses, Politics or Economics from a recognised UK HE institution.
- International Qualifications: We accept a wide range of European and international qualifications in addition to A-levels, the International Baccalaureate and BTEC qualifications.
- English Language requirements: Overall IELTS 6.0 overall with minimum 6.0 in writing and speaking, and 5.5 in listening and reading (or recognised equivalent)

- Fees: EU, EEA and Swiss Nationals starting a course from September 2021, will no longer be eligible for Home fees.

Course Modules
- Security Management (30 credits) Core Module: This module will provide the core theoretical background necessary for ensuring the security of information systems.
- International Cyber-Conflict (30 credits) Core Module: The character of security at an international level has been a key area of study in International Relations.
- IT & Internet Law (30 credits) Core Module: This module aims to develop an understanding of legal issues raised by the increased use of communication networks, such as the Internet.
- Cyber Defence Diplomacy (30 credits) Core Module
- Mental Wealth; Professional Life (Dissertation) Core Module: In this practical project at the master’s level, students will undertake a project within the scope of the selected MSc programme to develop skills relevant to a senior computing professional.
What We're Researching
Our research is focuses on how to respond to specific operational needs of cyber diplomacy and what the mechanisms would look like, how it would operate, and interact with stakeholders and other relevant processes; and how it would build on the existing framework for responsible state behaviour in cyber space developed in the context of the UN.
