With an emphasis on learning practical skills, underpinned by a sound knowledge of key principles, theories and regulations, you'll learn in ways that include:
Field trips to companies and financial institutions to see how professional banking and finance professionals operate.
Teamwork, to share ideas and insights and produce work together.
Guest speakers representing a cross-section of finance and business expertise.
Practical tasks. For example, learn how to trade in stocks and shares with our trading platform. This will develop investment management skills that will positively impact your CV.
Lectures, seminars, tutorials and workshops.
Guided independent study
You will be expected to undertake a great deal of independent study outside of formal teaching time, supported by our specialist business library and a selection of digital materials, financial databases, handbooks, notes and other resources.
Your independent learning is supported by a range of excellent facilities including online resources, and specialist facilities, such as edit suites, the library, the full Microsoft Office software, including MS Teams, and Moodle: our Virtual Learning Environment.

Each year you will spend around 300 hours of timetabled learning and teaching activities. These may be lectures, workshops, seminars and individual and group tutorials. Contact hours may vary depending on each module.

For undergraduate students, Wednesday afternoons are normally reserved for sports and cultural activities, but there may be occasions when this is not possible.

This can range from large groups in a lecture theatre setting, to smaller groups taking part in seminars and collaborative work. You will receive your personalised timetable at the beginning of the academic year depending on your course.
