Introduction to Climate Change and Carbon Footprints for Businesses
Overview
This is the first masterclass of its kind that the University has offered to businesses. Research by Sunderland City Council has identified that there is a knowledge and skills gap which they are looking to develop.
The short course will be delivered by an in-house expert to drive the transition towards a net zero economy. This course is designed for business employees at all levels from SME’s to large businesses and from any industry.
Course Structure
The workshop will cover:
- Introduction to climate change and its impacts, with particular emphasis on the relationship between businesses’ contribution to climate change due to greenhouse gas emissions and the result of climate change on their business.
- Introduction to calculating carbon footprints and the tools that can be used to measure greenhouse gas emissions for businesses.
- Practical workshop using UK government software provided by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero to understand the process of calculating carbon footprint from greenhouse gas emissions due to their business practices.

To be eligible to receive this course fully funded, you must be employed by a Sunderland-based business. If you are self-funding, your suitability will be assessed by an academic on completion of the application form.
Fees and Finance
The fee for this course is £125.
You may be eligible to receive this course fully funded through the UKSPF Sunderland Skills and Inclusion Programme.
