Overview
This level 3 Team Leader apprenticeship will help you understand different leadership styles, people and team management models. It'll also explore different approaches to customer and stakeholder relationships, communication, organisational strategy, project lifecycles, organisational compliance, time management and problems solving and decision-making techniques.
Team Leader apprentices will be able to communicate organisational strategy and team purpose, shape a high-performing teams, build trust with and across the team, communicate effectively, deliver against operational plans, organise and manage resources and risk, and ensure effective budgetary controls.
You'll drive to achieve all aspects of work, be open and approachable, flexible, innovative, solutions focused and promote organisational values.
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you'll achieve Foundation Chartered Manager Status and be able to use the fCMgr credentials after your name. This will also provide a springboard to attaining full Chartered Manager status with CMI.

Course structure
This apprenticeship is 15 months on-programme training and development to support you in learning the requisite skills, knowledge and behaviours for today’s managers. This will be demonstrated by a portfolio of evidence that you'll create by actively taking part in a combination of blended learning activities, including group workshops, 1 to 1 coaching, workplace mentoring and shadowing, and online learning, all contributing to the 20% off-job training allocation.
As well as providing a portfolio of evidence throughout the course of the apprenticeship, there is also an independent end-point assessment via the CMI over a 3-month period that provides the opportunity for you to showcase and demonstrate what you've learnt, and apply the required knowledge, skills and behaviours via:
- A presentation with questions and answers
- A professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence
The workshop days include:
Managing people and relationships
Explore time management and prioritisation tools to organise, prioritise and allocate daily and weekly work activities, as well as how to identify the learning needs of others and identifying solutions to address them. Review the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion in the workplace and their impact on the organisation and the team. Explore the purpose of the team leader role within the organisation, including levels of responsibility and accountability.
Building a high performing team
Explore leadership and management approaches and performance management techniques including how to manage individual or team performance by setting objectives, monitoring progress, providing clear guidance and feedback, and applying policy and procedure relating to people and organisational culture. Investigate stakeholder management and how to interpret and apply regulation and legislation, share best practices, and advise stakeholders on their application. Collaborate with stakeholders in the organisation to ensure the delivery of operational goals.
Communication, implementing operational plans and problem analysis
Explore how to manage resources to implement operational and team plans and the impact that cross-team working has on the delivery of organisational objectives. Investigate organisational strategy, objectives and communicating this to others. Assess communication techniques including presentation skills, negotiation and influencing skills, and how to communicate information through different media to enable key stakeholders to understand what is required. Review problem-solving and decision-making principles to provide solutions and influence the decision-making process.
Data collection and benchmarking
Explore processes and policies which support the delivery of operational requirements including relevant regulation, legislation, and compliance that impacts the team leader role and the organisation. Investigate how to collate, interpret and communicate data and information to create reports and use technology and software to produce documentation, including reports, spreadsheets and presentations to communicate information to meet the needs of different audiences.
Future plan and opportunities
Explore the impact that internal and external factors have on their role including environmental impacts, sustainability and net carbon zero and the potential to reduce energy consumption through their optimisation in day-to-day tasks. Learn how to manage and review the wider social and economic environment in which the organisation operates and identify future changes and possibilities in the sector that may impact your organisation.
Managing change, continuous improvement and project management
Explore managing others through change by identifying challenges and the activities to resolve them including negotiating with stakeholders to manage change and reduce conflict. Review work processes to identify opportunities to improve performance and continuous improvement. Review project management tools and techniques and the use of digital tools for planning project management, monitoring progress and taking corrective action to deliver against the project plan. Review approaches to managing budgets, and options and choices to maximise the efficient use of resources.

Your employer must be able to commit to the provision of the apprenticeship which includes 20% ‘off the job’ learning time.
You will need to have achieved a level 2 qualification in English and Maths before progressing to the End Point Assessment.

Fees and finance
Levy paying employers can use their apprenticeship levy to fund apprenticeship programmes and non-levy employers can use government co-investment where the government pays 95%, with the remaining 5% invested by the business.

This apprenticeship is designed for anyone moving into, or operating in, a team leader role. This programme will explore leadership knowledge, skills and behaviours that will enable you to become an effective leader. On programme completion offers Foundation Chartered Manager Status with the CMI that will support further professional leadership development.
