Course Overview

Add to your existing skill set and learn how to support and improve the quality of life of people living with dementia. This skill set may be useful across a number of industries including community services and health care.

What You Will Study

The successful achievement of this skill set requires you to complete all core units listed below. You will also be required to undertake 40 hours of vocational placement in an approved setting.

    • UNIT NAME: Provide support to people living with dementia
    • Unit description: This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to provide person-centred care and support to people living with dementia. It involves following an established individualised plan.
  • UNIT CODE: CHCCCS044
    • UNIT NAME: Follow established person-centred behaviour supports
    • Unit description: This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to implement behaviour support strategies outlined in an individualised behaviour support plan for a person receiving care or support.

Entry Requirements

  • Selection criteria:
    • Hold a qualification at Certificate III level or higher in Community Services, Health or a related field; or
    • Have skills and knowledge equivalent to the qualification requirement validated through a recognition of prior learning process
    • Work in a care or support role
  • Recommended: Sound literacy and numeracy skills

  • Reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect
  • Computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • Valid email address
  • Personal stationery (pen and paper)
  • Closed-in, non-slip soled shoes when at TAFE

Placement

  • Minimum of 40 hours of industry experience spread across the duration of your study
  • Vaccination requirements may be necessary for vocational placement

Important Information

  • Those students who have a medical contraindication may be unable to complete the vocational placement component of their course
  • This means you may not be able to meet all of the requirements of your course and may not be able to graduate or receive your qualification
