Course Overview

A forklift truck licence is essential if you are working in a warehousing, engineering, industrial or manufacturing environment. This course will provide you with the required safety, planning and operational knowledge you'll need to successfully and skilfully operate a forklift.

Unit Description

This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to operate a forklift truck safely in accordance with all relevant legislative requirements. Competence in this unit, does not in itself result in a HRWL licence to operate this plant.

Entry Requirements

Selection Criteria

You may undertake training prior to the age of 18, but must be 18 years of age or above in order to undertake your formal assessment. It is strongly recommended that prior to entering this course you have basic literacy and numeracy skills, as you will be required to undertake a formal assessment, and assistance cannot be provided during this assessment.


You must be employed in industry and have access to a forklift truck to undertake this course. You will be required to undertake on-the-job practical training under the supervision of a current High Risk Work Licence holder.


South West campuses only
Applications may be considered if you are not employed in industry but have access to a suitable forklift truck.


Resources Required

You are responsible for meeting the minimum occupational health and safety requirements in practical classes.
This includes the use of:


  • protective footwear with safety toe cap and non-slip soles to AS2210

If you fail to meet these minimum standards of dress, you will not be permitted entry into practical classes.


You will also require:


  • enclosed footwear for on campus training and assessment
  • personal stationery (pens and paper)
