Course Overview

Start your career in the glass and glazing industry with this apprenticeship course. You will develop the knowledge and skills needed to work across a variety of job roles including safety, manufacturing, processing, installation, and handling.


According to the Australian Government's Job Outlook service, glass and glazing are skills in demand with employers currently finding it hard to fill vacancies. Strong growth is expected in the industry with around 6,000 job openings expected over the next five years.


In this course, you will learn how to select, cut, install, remove, and replace glass in a variety of residential and commercial settings. You'll gain practical skills including how to move sheets of glass by hand, make measurements and calculations, cut thin glass and mirrors by hand, as well as shape, drill, and edge glass using basic machines. Our experienced and passionate trainers will give you the one-on-one guidance you need to succeed.


Successful completion of this course will qualify you to work as a glazier or glass and glazing tradesperson. You will also gain the basic knowledge and skills needed to complete further training in this field.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.


Selection Criteria

To study an apprenticeship program, you must be indentured as an apprentice with your employer.


Employers need to be able to provide the necessary human and physical resources to qualify for an apprentice.


Resources Required

You are responsible for meeting the minimum occupational health and safety requirements in practical classes. This includes the use of:


  • Safety glasses
  • Protective footwear with safety toe cap and non-slip soles to AS2210
  • Leather gloves to AS2161
  • Hair protection

You should also wear 100% cotton drill industry-standard clothing.


If you fail to meet these minimum standards of dress, you will not be permitted entry into practical classes.


You are also required to have access to and bring personal stationery.


Assessment Methods

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.


University Pathways

If you want to go on to further study at university, TAFE Queensland has a pathway option to get you there. In many cases, completing one of our diplomas may give you a full year of credit towards a degree with one of our partner universities.
