MIG - GMAW Certification. Ticket 8G - Weld Australia Certification (AS1796)

Course Overview

This non-accredited short course is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge required to gain Weld Australia AS1796 Certification of Welders - Ticket 8G. The course focuses on Gas metal-arc welding (GMAW) of plate and pipe.


Course Outcome

Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a Statement of Participation.

Entry Requirements

  • Selection criteria: You will be required to enrol and complete the Welding Certification Preparatory course or meet the below evidence requirements.
  • Documentary evidence: The documentary evidence shall include details of attending or having attended one or more welding courses of instruction, and experience gained in work that includes joints, materials, and thicknesses not differing greatly from practical tests for the required certificate as specified in this standard.

Resources Required

  • You are responsible for meeting the minimum occupational health and safety requirements in practical classes.
  • Workwear and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required may include:
    • Protective clothing
    • Eye protection
    • Hearing protection
    • Protective footwear
    • Hair protection
    • Welding helmet
    • Long welding gloves

Important Information

  • To obtain the Certification of Welders AS1796 with Weld Australia, you are required to complete theory and practical requirements as outlined by AS1796 Certification of Welders.
  • Your teacher will assist you in the submission of evidence with Weld Australia. The cost of the course covers the examination by TAFE Queensland, however you will incur an additional fee with Weld Australia at the time of your application.
  • TAFE Queensland provides training in the area of welding theory if you are seeking to complete the theory assessment through Weld Australia, see Welding Certification Theory.
  • You can concurrently complete the practical and theory requirements however, you must apply for certification within two (2) years of having completing both theory and practical assessments.
