Welding Certification Preparatory

Course Overview

This course will provide an opportunity to develop skills in preparation for Weld Australia Assessment in one of the following AS1796 Certification of Welders tickets:


  • Manual metal-arc welding process on plate/pipe. Tickets: 1, 1E, 3, 3E
  • Manual metal-arc welding on pipe - Ticket 2, 4, 5
  • Gas tungsten-arc welding on pipe - Ticket 5, 7
  • Gas metal-arc welding on pipe and plate - Ticket 8G
  • Flux-cored arc welding on pipe and plate - Ticket 8F
  • Submerged ARC welding Ticket: 9

Entry Requirements

  • Engineering welding experience or industry experience is highly recommended

Resources Required

  • Workwear and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required may include:
    • Protective clothing - long cotton drill trousers, and long-sleeved cotton drill shirt
    • Eye protection – safety glasses must comply with AS1338
    • Hearing protection - must comply with AS1270 (may be supplied)
    • Protective footwear - safety toe, leather upper, non-slip soles must comply with AS2210
    • Hair protection - peak cap with a snood capable of fully containing hair
    • Welding helmet - it is preferred that you provide your own for hygiene reasons and it must comply with AS1338-1
    • If you are required to undertake activities that produce welding fumes you will be required to use P2 moulded half-face respirators, or alternative RPE of equal or higher protection

Important Information

  • At the conclusion of training, you are then able to undertake a Welding Australian examination
  • To undertake the Weld Australia examination, you MUST also enrol into the relevant ticket certification course
  • Successful completion of one of the above Weld Australia examinations will enable you to apply for certification within the Australian Welder Certification Register (AWCR)
  • The candidate will also incur an additional fee with Weld Australia at the time of application
