Core Units

  • CPCPWT3022: Install and commission water heating systems and adjust controls and devices
    • Unit description: This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to install and commission water heaters and install and adjust controls and mixing devices used to manually control water mix and flow.
    • Pre-requisite unit: CPCPCM2043
  • CPCPCM2043: Carry out WHS requirements
    • Unit description: This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to carry out work health and safety (WHS) requirements in a plumbing and services work environment.

  • Selection criteria: If you are seeking to apply for a licenced outcome with QBCC upon successful completion of this course, you must hold:
    • a current electrical or gas licence – See Important Information section for additional details
    • There are no selection criteria requirements, if you are seeking to complete this course to meet the entry requirements for SSCPC0016 Commission and maintain Temperature Control Devices Skill Set

Resources Required

You are responsible for meeting the minimum occupational health and safety requirements in practical classes. This includes the use of:


  • safety glasses
  • protective footwear with safety toe cap and non-slip soles to AS2210
  • You should also wear 100% cotton drill industry-standard clothing.

If you fail to meet these minimum standards of dress, you will not be permitted entry into practical classes.


Important Information

There are two potential license outcomes for this course:


  1. Water plumber—gas: for licensed gasfitters who want to apply to QBCC for the license to connect and disconnect the water plumbing associated with replacing a gas hot water heater.
    • To be eligible, you must already hold a current gas work licence (Petroleum and Gas—Production and Safety—Act 2004)
  2. Water plumber—electrical: for licensed electricians who want to apply to QBCC for the license to connect and disconnect the water plumbing associated with replacing an electric resistance hot water heater.
    • To be eligible you must already hold a current electrical mechanic licence (Electrical Safety Act 2002) or a current electrical fitter licence (Electrical Safety Act 2002).

Successful completion of this skill set also meets the entry requirements into the SSCPC0016 Commission and Maintain Temperature Control Devices Skill Set.
