Program Overview


Course Overview

This course will prepare you to gain a qualification in a chosen welding process to ISO9606 Certification of Welders for Fusion Welding of Steels standards. Each candidate must select one of the following welding processes:


  • Gas metal arc welding
  • Flux core arc welding
  • Manual metal arc welding
  • Gas tungsten arc welding

At the conclusion of training in your chosen welding process, you are then able to undertake a Welding Australian examination. To undertake the Weld Australia examination you MUST also enrol in NONAC03049 ISO9606 Weld Australia Certification Test. Successful completion of the Weld Australia examination enables you to apply for certification within the Australian Welder Certification Register (AWCR). The candidate will also incur an additional fee with Weld Australia at time of application.

Entry Requirements

  • It is recommended candidate has a required trade level experience in the chosen welding process to be successful.
  • Selection criteria: It is recommended you have a minimum of 2 years trade welding experience in your chosen process.
  • Each applicant will be required to apply for a WeldQ account, you will be assisted to do this on your first day.
  • To undertake the Welding Australia examination you MUST also enrol in NONAC03049 ISO9606 Weld Australia Certification Test.

Resources Required

  • Workwear and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required may include:
    • Protective clothing
    • Eye protection
    • Hearing protection
    • Protective footwear
    • Hair protection
    • Welding helmet
    • Long welding gloves
    • If you are required to undertake activities that produce welding fumes you will be required to use P2 moulded half-face respirators, or alternative RPE of equal or higher protection
