Safety Training Certification Skill Set
Course Overview
This course will give you the skills to follow security procedures, prevent and fight fires on a ship, and survive at sea in the event of vessel abandonment. Our highly experienced team of industry professionals will give you the one-on-one guidance you need to confidently adhere to safety requirements in a maritime environment.

- UNIT NAME: Provide First Aid
- Unit description: This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies. The unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

- UNIT NAME: Follow vessel security procedures (security awareness training)
- Unit description: This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to recognise and report security threats.
- UNIT CODE: MARF046
- UNIT NAME: Survive at sea in the event of vessel abandonment and personal survival techniques (PST)
- Unit description: This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to survive at sea using personal survival techniques (PST) in the event of vessel abandonment.
- UNIT CODE: MARF035
- UNIT NAME: Contribute to fire prevention and firefighting (basic firefighting)
- Unit description: This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to prevent and control fires and to respond effectively to any fire emergency onboard a vessel.
- UNIT CODE: MARF041
- UNIT NAME: Observe personal safety and social responsibility (PSSR)
- Unit description: This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to contribute to the safety management system (SMS) processes where there is responsibility for own work outputs.

Entry Requirements
- Selection criteria: You must be a minimum of 16 years of age and be medically fit to complete all tasks.
Resources Required
- It is recommended that you have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader.
- You will be provided with a recommended reading list and/or required textbooks after enrolment, during orientation or at the start of each unit.
- You are responsible for meeting the minimum occupational health and safety requirements in practical classes.
Important Information
- You will need to provide the following:
- Payment for Certificate fee to Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).
- One current passport photo.
- Delivery of the HLTAID011 unit will be completed outside of the 5 day block delivery.
- Closed in footwear and socks (runners are suitable), long sleeve shirt and long pants (or overalls) for fire and pool training.
