Programme Overview

The Doctor of Philosophy in Physiotherapy is designed for individuals who want to advance in the physiotherapy field. Students who complete this degree are prepared to work in the academic, public, nonprofit, and corporate sectors. The PhD degree holders will be allowed to continue independent research to increase scientific understanding in the physiotherapy industry.

Programme Aim

The program of Doctor of Philosophy in Physiotherapy will produce researchers and physiotherapists who can:


  • Incorporate in-depth relevant knowledge, formulate, and conduct problems effectively through critical thinking skills in physiotherapy practices.
  • Adopt practical measures with interpersonal accuracy through effective communication in advanced physiotherapy field.
  • Implement the digital and numeracy skills in managing scientific solution to complex problems in the field of physiotherapy.
  • Effectively utilize leadership, autonomy, and responsive skills to personally undergo entrepreneurial work in physiotherapy programme.
  • Empower integrity through professionalism and ethics in physiotherapy related research.

Entry Requirements

  • A Master’s Degree (Level 7 Malaysian Qualifications Framework, MQF) in Physiotherapy or related fields accepted by the Lincoln University College (LUC) Senate; or
  • Other qualifications equivalent to a Master’s Degree (Level 7, MQF) recognized by the Government of Malaysia.
  • Candidates without a related qualification in the specific field/s or working experience in the relevant fields must undergo appropriate prerequisite courses determined by the LUC.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Level 6, MQF) candidates who are registered for Master’s Degree (Level 7, MQF) programs may apply to convert to the Doctoral Degree programmes are subject to the following conditions:
    • Within one year for full-time and within two years for part-time candidates;
    • Having shown competency and capability in conducting research at the Doctoral level through rigorous internal evaluation by the LUC; and
    • Approval of the LUC Senate.
