Program Description

This Northwest College certificate is designed to prepare students to take the national Certified Nursing Assistant examination to acquire state certification by providing basic theory, principles, and skills necessary to provide client/resident care in the health care setting. The student will be made aware of how state and federal laws as well as policies and procedures of the institution govern the practice of the nursing assistant. Special emphasis is placed on the role of the nursing assistant in meeting the physical, psychosocial, mental, spiritual, and cultural needs of the client/resident. The student will be introduced to medical vocabulary and terminology to give the students a working knowledge of medical terms, the use of prefixes, suffixes, word roots, and combined forms of words.
