- GS 500. Summer Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity
- Term Typically Offered: Summer Only
- Description: This course is to register students who are participating in 10-week undergraduate summer research programs.
- GS 601. Academic Communication in English
- Description: Classes and a range of interactive activities are designed to help international graduate students gain confidence in both academic and conversational English in authentic settings and contexts. Course outcomes include that students will acquire a sophisticated vocabulary and facility with idiomatic language; improve pronunciation, improve understanding of English in academic and nonacademic contexts, improve ability to discuss academic and non-academic topics, current events, and cultural issues; be able to give short presentations and execute small public speaking tasks with greater fluency, accuracy, and confidence.

- Description: Students preparing for qualifying/comprehensive exams require special permission from both the director of the program of study and the Dean of SIGS to enroll in the course. Counts as full-time just as enrollment in candidacy counts as full time; students who are enrolled in this course are expected to be studying and preparing full time for their exams, just as students enrolled in candidacy are expected to be working on their research and dissertation full-time.
- Note: 0-hour course; cannot be repeated more than two times; permission of program director and Dean of SIGS required; course is considered full-time and may not be taken with more than one additional 3-hour course.
