Direct entry to second year Earth Sciences MGeol (Hons) 2025 entry

Overview

It is possible for students applying for the Earth Sciences MGeol single Integrated Masters degree to enter directly into the second year of study, meaning you will complete your degree in four years instead of five.


Entry Requirements

Standard Entry Grades

  • GCE A-Levels: AAA, including A in Geology or Environmental Science and A in one of the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics, and Physics.
  • IB points: 38 (HL 6,6,6), including HL6 in three of the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Environmental systems and societies (ES&S), Geography, and Physics.

General Entry Requirements

  • SQA qualifications: SQA National 5 (B) in English and one SQA National 5 (B) from the following: Biology, Chemistry, Computing science, Geography, Applications of Mathematics, Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology.
  • GCSE qualifications: GCSE (5) in English language or English literature, and one GCSE (5) from the following: Biology, Chemistry, Computing Science, Geography, Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology.

Course Details

  • Practical and Field Skills for Earth Sciences (Direct Entrants): provides basic practical and fieldwork skills that are not taught at secondary school and which characterise University-taught, accredited Earth Science programmes.
  • Direct entry students will have the opportunity to study abroad during their second year of study.
