Course Details
MS Word is the most common application for writing dissertations and essays. To create impressive well laid out essays using features such Table of contents, footnotes, endnotes, styles and bibliographies, it's important to know how to use Word to its full potential.
The aim of this course is to give individuals a good foundational understanding of Word in order to create well-organised and well-presented documents.
You will:
- Familiarise yourself with the Microsoft Word interface, including the ribbon and its tabs: Home, Insert, Design, Layout, References, Mailings, Review and View.
- Add and edit text by clicking on the blank document, highlighting text, and making changes using the Home tab options for font, size, colour, and style.
- Learn how to add and edit headers and footers via the Insert tab, and how to double-click to edit them.
- Understand how to add and edit images through the Insert tab, click on images to edit and add alt tags for accessibility.
- Understand how to use Styles in the Home tab for consistency and accessibility, applying styles to headings, titles and text.
- Learn to use the Editor tool in the Review tab to check for spelling, grammar, and stylistic issues and receive enhancement suggestions.
- Use bullet points from the Home tab to aid in readability.
- Organise data on a page with tables from the Insert tab and customise them using the Table Design and Layout tabs.
- Use footnotes and endnotes for referencing in the References tab, letting Word number them automatically.
- Be able to use SmartArt, graphics, shapes and text boxes from the Insert tab to enhance document visuals.
- Learn to generate an automatic table of contents in the References tab.
