What You'll Learn

During this course, students will explore 3D modelling using Blender. You will learn how to create basic 3D models on the computer, apply lighting and textures, and finally render an image from your model for use in other applications, such as Photoshop.

How You'll Learn

Our online courses are delivered through Microsoft Teams, ensuring a seamless learning experience. Each session begins with a live broadcast from the tutor, introducing the topic and guiding you through the resources.

Our courses incorporate a variety of learning methods, including videos, quizzes and exercises. The tutor remains available online for real-time support, making the learning process both effective and enjoyable. Our blended teaching approach combines live and pre-recorded content, offering the flexibility to learn at your own pace.

Course Structure

First Part (3 hours)

• Introduction to Blender: Discover what Blender is and its capabilities.
• Navigating the Interface: Get familiar with the layout and essential tools.
• Object Manipulation: Learn to create, move, rotate, and scale objects effectively.
• Working with Basic Primitives: Understand how to use fundamental shapes in your projects.
• Exploring Render Engines: Gain insight into the two main render engines in Blender.
• Basic Polygon Modelling: Learn the foundational techniques for creating 3D models.

Second Part (3 hours)

• Introduction to Sculpting: Explore the basics of digital sculpting techniques.
• Texturing and UV Unwrapping: Understand the process of applying textures and mapping them accurately.
• Fundamentals of Lighting: Learn how to create and manipulate lighting for your scenes.
• Basic Animation Techniques: Get started with simple animation principles and workflows.
• Rendering Final Images and Animations: Discover how to render your completed images and animations for presentation.

Course Lead

• Matthew Abbott: Digital Skills Trainer at Falmouth, specialising in Microsoft Office 365 and Adobe Premiere Pro. He delivers a range of Adobe and Microsoft courses, including Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) and Adobe Certified Professional (ACP) qualifications. He holds a degree in Sustainable Product Design and a PCET teaching certificate, and has served as a Senior Technician at Falmouth University for over 20 years.
