Explore the world of Risography using collage on this Risograph preparation and print course. Flex your creativity as you learn to develop texture and depth in both traditional and digital realms, and leave with 20 copies of a Duotone split Riso print and a digital print of your original work for comparison.

Course Details
On this one-day detailed introduction to Risograph collage techniques, we’ll teach you everything you need to know to use a Risograph printer and we’ll get into the details of developing more complex work, looking at the use of digital and traditional media textures to create collaged duo-tones for Riso.
We’ll start in the traditional media realm, creating textures to print out and use as collage material. We’ll generate some digital textures too. We’ll gather inspiration from our campus gardens, and create collages to use with the Riso printer in two colours (or if preferred, traditional media drawings can be layered with a single collage plate.
At the end of the course you’ll take home:
- 20 Duotone split Risograph prints of your work
- 1 digital print of your original collage for comparison
This course is taught by Cally Gibson, a senior Technician who teaches a broad range of digital skills at Falmouth and who is also a freelance reportage illustrator and painter, using Risograph prints regularly in her work.
This course includes tea and coffee, along with all materials you’ll need for the day. Please bring a packed lunch with you.
Course Outline
On this course, you will:
- Learn all the details about how to use a Risograph printer, so that you can print unaided
- Learn to create digital textures using monoprint techniques
- Learn to use masking in Photoshop to create collages
- Create a detailed collage, and a digital print of your collage
- Create 20 copies of a Duotone split Risograph print based on your original collage

You’ll learn in a collaborative and creative environment on this one-day course. Cally teaches in an engaging and interactive way, with plenty of examples to guide you through as you learn the basics. You will learn by doing as you engage with the exercises throughout the day.
Who is This Course For
This course is for creative makers who are looking for an in-depth Risograph course that includes digitising your source materials and creating texture and depth before you develop your plates for printing. No previous experience is required.
What to Expect
This will be a creative day where you’ll get hands-on straightaway via a series of taught workshops.
- 9.30: Arrival and welcome, tea and coffee
- 10am – 1pm: Morning session
- 1pm – 2pm: Lunch break (please bring a packed lunch)
- 2pm – 5pm: Afternoon session
