Overview

BA (Hons) Music Production & DJ Performance will equip you with the skills and knowledge required to succeed as a music producer and DJ performer in today’s competitive music industry. Using your preferred DAW, you'll learn advanced music production skills to create your own tracks including composition, sound design and mixing. You'll also learn advanced DJ performance skills on state-of-the-art equipment, including remix and sampling techniques, electronic music performance and VJ skills. The programme also covers music business fundamentals and revenue strategies, preparing you to launch your career as a DJ/Producer while you're on the course.

Teaching & Learning

On our higher education programmes, you will engage in a variety of sessions (up to 16 students) and seminars. In addition to these, you will be expected to engage in independent study. Independent learning is about conducting your own research, taking control of your work, finding out what you need to know, and directing your own study. During this time, you can take advantage of the following resources:

  • State-of-the-art facilities and private practice spaces across two buildings.
  • Tutorials with lecturers to help you focus on your assignments.
  • Studio Lab Time with support staff (up to five per week depending on availability) to help you with your technical set up and assignments.
  • Extra workshops with music industry professionals.
  • Open Mic Nights and pointblank Choir.

Assessment

Assessment helps you gauge your progress, supports learning, and provides feedback. You will engage in the following types of assessment during this course:


  • Formative exercises - these are designed to provide feedback on your work and help you improve.
  • Summative assignments - these are designed to both assess your existing knowledge, and deepen your learning. They often simulate real industry scenarios, providing valuable experience with professional briefs.

Entry Requirements

  • First and foremost, we are looking for people who can demonstrate a) their passion for music and b) an ability to successfully complete a Higher Education programme. Where conditional offers are made, typical offers will be set from:
    • A Level: CC
    • BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma: MPP/MM
    • We also accept T Levels and do consider a wide range of Level 3 and comparable international qualifications.

Fees & Funding

  • Course Fees:
    • UK: £11,440 per year, £2,860 per term
    • Non-UK: £15,750 per year
  • Student Finance: You may be eligible to apply for a full tuition loan of up to £11,400 for courses with accelerated (2 year) delivery. Eligible students may be entitled to a maintenance loan of up to £13,348 per year. The amount of maintenance you can apply for will depend on your circumstances.
