Program Overview

DJ Skills - Level 2 will teach you a range of creative techniques including harmonic mixing, acapella mixing, effects, scratching techniques, and much more. Part of the course will focus on how to record, edit, and perfect a DJ mix using a DAW such as Ableton Live or Logic Pro so that you can create professional sounding mixes for a range of scenarios (self-promotion, guest radio slots, label releases, etc). You’ll learn tips and tricks for establishing and maintaining your DJ brand and getting gigs from professional instructors with a wide range of experience. You'll use Pioneer DJ’s rekordbox software (in Performance mode) and utilize its creative features such as sample players, cue points, and loops confidently during performances.

This course will encourage creativity and experimentation in the approach to DJ-ing and equip you with performance and editing skills for a range of scenarios. You will be encouraged to develop a critical understanding of a range of creative DJ techniques and principles. You will develop knowledge of audio effects, harmonic mixing, and acapellas, as well as practical skills in the application of these in a DJ context. You will develop confidence in the live performance of music using a range of established creative DJ techniques. The course will introduce key creative DJ concepts and allow you to enhance your existing practical skills using industry-standard DJ hardware. You will also develop transferable skills in recording and editing using a DAW, as well as critical listening skills, which will be relevant to a range of professional scenarios.

• Is this program suitable for beginners?

Yes. This program assumes no previous experience. Your first course will ensure that you have a sound grasp on all of the most fundamental skills for music production. You will then progress into increasingly more advanced coursework which will further develop and expand upon these production skills.

• What are the admission requirements?

Admission into any college-level program at pointblank requires that the prospective student:

• Be 18 years of age or older (under age 18 may be accepted only with signed parental consent)
• Possess a High School Diploma or the Equivalent (or pass an approved Ability-to-Benefit Test)
• Be provided a current pointblank Music School Catalog
• Sign a School Performance Fact Sheet and an Enrollment Agreement for their program

• What equipment do I need to take this course?
  • Either Ableton Live Suite or Logic Pro (please contact us for more details)
  • Computer which meets the minimum requirements for your chosen DAW
  • MIDI keyboard (recommended for most short courses; required for Diploma students)
  • Native Instruments Reaktor + Blocks (required only for the Advanced Sound Design course)

• What support do I get during this program?

Throughout your program, you will be taught and supported by our expert team of professional music instructors.
