Program Overview

Our 3-month Sound Design & Mixing Award shows producer-engineers like you how to design impressive sounds and create high-quality mixes. You’ll develop your own creative identity with guidance from professional industry instructors who’ve worked with the likes of Depeche Mode, Flying Lotus, Daft Punk, Skrillex, and more.

  • Timetable: Two 4-hour classes each week for 10 weeks. Daytime, evening & weekend slots available.

  • Sound Design: Learn the art of sound design and create unique sounds for your music productions.
  • Art of Mixing: Develop your mixing skills and learn how to create high-quality mixes for your music productions.

  • David Aguila: Audio Mastering engineer for Ted Taforo, Snow Nerds, Scot Ray, and more. World-class trumpeter for Chosen Vale, Vinny Golia, & Tonight Show with Jay Leno. BM Eastman, MFA CalArts, DMA candidate under King Britt at UCSD.
  • Markman: Composition & Mixing instructor. DJ Markman incorporates classic 90s House with futuristic R&B, UK Garage & Bassline. Ableton Certified, his live sets pay homage to the energy that made his heroes sets, artists like Adamski, Orbital and the Chems, so compelling.
  • Sweatson Klank: Music Production & Mixing instructor. Flying Lotus remixer and Project Mooncircle stalwart Tom Wilson passes his knowledge on to you as a frontline member of pointblank LA.

This course opens up a multitude of career opportunities. DJs can perform at clubs, festivals, weddings, and corporate events, building a strong fan base and potentially securing residencies or international tours. Producers can work with artists, labels, and studios to create original tracks, remixes, and soundtracks for films, TV shows, and commercials.

Admission Requirements

Admission into any college-level program at pointblank requires that the prospective student:


  • Be 18 years of age or older (under age 18 may be accepted only with signed parental consent)
  • Possess a high school diploma or the equivalent
  • Be provided a current pointblank Music School Catalog
  • Sign a School Performance Fact Sheet and an Enrollment Agreement for their program

Equipment Requirements

None at all! Every pointblank student has access to their own fully-equipped workstation in class and during their practical studio work outside of class time. If you decide to purchase equipment for your own home studio, we will be happy to help you arrange student discounts from our leading industry partners including Apple, Ableton, Pioneer, Native Instruments, Serato, Izotope, Waves, and more.


Class Schedule

For most 10-week courses within in this program, classes meet once per week for 4 hours (with a 15-minute break included) at one of the following session times:


  • 10:00am – 2:00pm (Morning Session)
  • 2:30pm – 6:30pm (Afternoon Session)
  • 7:00pm – 11:00pm (Evening Session)

Musicianship and instrumental courses meet once per week for 2 hours each at similar times. Some programs contain up to 3 or 4 courses per quarter, so check the "Key Info" section on each program page to see how many classes you'll be attending each week.
