Overview

This degree is designed to respond to the needs of the modern vocal performer, preparing students for their next steps into the music industry. The course focuses on practical, real-world learning with assessments that mimic industry-relevant tasks, giving students confidence as professionals to pursue careers as singers, rappers, songwriters, music producers, lyricists, composers, musical directors, vocal producers, coaches, arrangers, and more.

Entry Requirements

  • First and foremost, pointblank is looking for people who can demonstrate a passion for music and an ability to successfully complete a Higher Education programme
  • Typical offers will be set from:
    • A Level: CC
    • BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma: MPP/MM
    • pointblank also accepts T Levels and considers a wide range of Level 3 and comparable international qualifications
  • If students do not have formal qualifications, they may still be considered on the strength of relevant prior learning and experience
  • pointblank will initially assess the application form, which should detail any previous study or relevant experience in music
  • Successful applicants will then be required to attend a vocal audition
  • pointblank also runs a Foundation Year that can progress students onto this course, and students may be guided towards this option should their experience and qualifications not match the requirements needed

  • Do I need to buy software & equipment to take the course?
    • Depending on the programme, certain hardware and software will be essential throughout studies
    • pointblank students qualify for discounts from Apple Education, Ableton, Native Instruments, Serato, Pioneer DJ, and other leading industry partners
  • Do I need a music or music technology qualification to apply?
    • Studying a music or music technology qualification before applying for one of pointblank's Higher Education courses would be beneficial, but is not a prerequisite
  • What is my weekly study schedule?
    • Each module requires attendance at one daytime class, which will be 3 or 4 hours long depending on the module
    • 3-hour classes will also have an additional 1-hour virtual seminar each week
    • Students will also have two 30-minute tutorials with their lecturer per module per term for additional support
  • Can I take the course and work at the same time?
    • This is a full-time course, and students should undertake at least 10 hours of study per module per week
    • pointblank recommends committing to working no more than 15 hours per week
