Music Production & Sound Engineering Diploma

Course Overview

This 9-month diploma is for those looking to take their production and engineering skills to the next level, in a short space of time. We are excited to be teaching spatial audio mixing on this course alongside the opening of our new facilities where each recording studio will be equipped with Dolby Atmos immersive technology. After studying this course, you will be ready to step inside the music industry to begin a range of careers, including sound engineer, music producer, mix engineer, label manager, film/TV composer, sound designer, remixer, artist, studio manager and more. You'll learn from music producers who’ve worked with Armin Van Buuren, Bjork, and Depeche Mode and benefit from studio mentoring sessions with A&R Director Kwame Kwaten who has worked with Jay-Z, Mick Jagger, Tom Jones and Seal to name a few.

  • Sound Design: Learn the principles of sound design and audio post-production.

Term 3

  • Spatial Audio Mixing with Dolby Atmos: Learn to mix and master your tracks in Dolby Atmos.
  • Advanced Composition: Develop your skills in advanced music composition and arrangement.
  • Mastering: Learn the art of mastering your tracks for distribution.
  • Advanced Recording & Mixing: Develop your skills in advanced recording and mixing techniques.

  • Alex Phountzi: Programme Leader and lecturer with releases on V2 and FabricLive, and remixes for Amy Winehouse, Roisin Murphy, and Fela Kuti.
  • Anna Lakatos: Music Production lecturer and Ableton Certified Trainer, specializing in object-based 3D sound for motion picture and commercial music production.

FAQ

  • I am an International Student. How do I apply?: For courses longer than 6 months, you will be required to apply for a Student Visa. pointblank is able to sponsor you on a Student Visa for degree programmes. For courses of 6 months or less, you may need to apply for a Standard Visitor Visa.
  • Do I need to buy software & equipment to take the course?: Depending on your programme, certain hardware and software will be essential throughout your studies. You will need to have access to this equipment outside of the campus.
  • What is my weekly study schedule?: Each module requires your attendance at one class which will be 3 or 4 hours long depending on the module. You will also have two 30-minute tutorials with your lecturer per module per term for additional support. Your timetable will be confirmed a week before the start of each term. In addition to your classes, you are expected to schedule sufficient independent study and practice time each week.
